Grandma's name included?

Hi,
I'm expecting very soon, and I really would like to name my child after my grandma. Although, her name is Dawn, which is very old fashioned, and not my favourite name. I could name her after Dawn which is Aurora. My husband's granny has passed, and we were think whether to call her after that. Which would be Tess. I'm not too sure about that either. Maybe as middle names?

Another name meaning sunrise or dawn is
Oriana.

I like the name Tess but if you're unsure then you should go with something else.

I think Dawn and/or Tess would be fine middle names.

Aurora Tess or Tess Aurora both work well IMO.

Zaria/Zarya/Zorya/Zora all mean dawn too, as do Roxanne/Roxanna/Roxana.

Both my DDs have two middle names, after the great grandparents on both sides of the family. I think it's a lovely idea! Incidentally, they are not names that we would ever use as a first name (apart from one). But if you really dislike the names then fair enough! Although personally, I love Tess!

Tess is lovely and gets mentioned a lot on this board. Dawn is not 'very old-fashioned' (something like Gertrude would be that) - just not fashionable at the moment, as it was very popular in the 60s and 70s. I do agree that Aurora is nicer, though (only problem would be with people/kids that can't pronounce their 'r's), but as a middle name surely Dawn would be fine?

Dawn would be a lovely middle name. Auwowa is a pwetty name but I couldn't use it for my DDs.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 07/06/2017 17:00

I like Tess Oriana.

Sophronia · 07/06/2017 17:05

Tess Aurora would be nice.

I personally don't like the name Dawn but we've used a weird name as mn for family reasons. Has never been an issue. I like Tess/Tessa/Teresa.

I think if you want to name a child after someone, you should give them the name. Not some evasive compromise. Dawn has a lovely meaning and usually goes well as a middle name. Always difficult to say without knowing the other names in the equation.

Eilasor · 07/06/2017 18:06

My children all have two middle names after family, I very much like it. I would never have given them to my children as first names, though. Aurora and tess are both lovely.

Rockaby · 07/06/2017 19:06

Aurora Tess is lovely.

Pemba · 07/06/2017 19:10

Tessa Dawn is nice (Tess Dawn doesn't really flow, you could still call her Tess for short). Or Teresa Dawn/Theresa Dawn of course (although the name Theresa has been somewhat tainted lately!).

bridgetreilly · 08/06/2017 18:17

I really think that unless you use the actual name, you're not honouring anyone. If you like Aurora, use it, but it's not your Grandma's name.

Tessa Dawn would be a perfectly good name.

Wenchelda · 08/06/2017 20:51

I agree Tessa Dawn is lovely Smile

Amethistle · 08/06/2017 21:25

Tessa Dawn works, but I love Tess Aurora.

Some other names relating to dawn...
Danica
Thea
Alba
Aurelia
