Rudy as a girls name?

Hi! We are having a baby girl, due in September. We're really struggling with thinking of some potential names for her. DP hates 'flowery' names so that wipes out quite a few!

The only two we can vaguely agree on are:
Rudy Sophia
Lyra Rose

Any thoughts? I've liked Rudy all along, but it has been met with skepticism from others.

No.
What about Hedy? It's very similar to Rudy but it's actually a girl's name.

Rudy is horrible. Ruby is better. I prefer Sophia Rose.

Montsti · 04/06/2017 12:27

Definitely Lyra...

For me Rudy is a boys name and not a nice one IMO....it was a common name for a fart when I was a child...

MacarenaFerreiro · 04/06/2017 13:35

Rudy is a boys name.

Ruby is a girls name.

Tinseleverywhere · 04/06/2017 13:40

What about Ruthie

LilaBard · 04/06/2017 15:26

I love Rudy. Know a little girl called Rudi and think its lovely. Def not just a boys name. Of you can put up with "no not Ruby" til everyone gets used to it go for it. Lyra is a bit too faffy for my tastes.

AmysTiara · 04/06/2017 15:32

I don't like Rudy for a boy or a girl. It's a harsh ugly name

Lucked · 04/06/2017 15:36

Well I think it s nicer than Ruby. I think it is an unusual enough name that you can use it for a girl.

Willowfrost · 04/06/2017 15:43

I know a young lady called Rudy, it def works for both. I love it !

IHaveACrapCat · 04/06/2017 16:13

I think Rudy is awful for either gender, but particularly hideous for a girl.

I know of a Rudy-Juno and I can't for the life of me understand why the parents thought that was a good name. Especially when Juno is so great on its own. I am normally one who just smiles and says "oh how lovely" when being told a baby's name, but that one left me speechless.

Also, "rudies" is a sexual slang term around ours so that may be why I dislike the name Rudy so much

Mrsknackered · 05/06/2017 14:36

I know a 26 year old Rudy and a 22 year old Rudi and they're both female.

Most people I know thought they were girls names.

I love Rudy for both, more so for a boy though.

Dolwar · 09/06/2017 21:36

Rudy is a boy's name.

Lyra Rose has too many Rs in close proximity. Could be an issue if she turns out to have an R related speech impediment.

blahthisistoohard · 10/06/2017 09:21

Rudy nudie is what comes to mind!

Lyra Rose much the better option but I would prefer Lila to Lyra personally...

TheOtherOnes · 12/06/2017 16:47

I quite like it OP!

Wasn't Smithy's sister in Gavin and Stacey called Rudy too?

Yes, but it was a nickname for Ruth; skip to 1:25 on this clip.

wobblywonderwoman · 12/06/2017 16:59

I think it is nice - I do like Ruby but it has become very popular

Other options

Sadie Esme Ruth

grufallosfriend · 12/06/2017 19:20

Rudy is too rude-ey, even for a boys name. Sorry I don't like it at all.

OverAndAbove · 12/06/2017 19:25

Trudie would be much better! Trudie Rose is nice

OwlsinTowls · 12/06/2017 21:17

Lyra.

I associate Rudy with men, in particular the character in The Book Thief.
