I'm not pregnant or even ttc but I was wondering what people thought of the name Torben? I have a 6 month old baby boy and I called him the only other name my partner and I liked. Sometimes I wish I'd picked this. But I doubt I'll change it now

Well when I say it out loud, I think Peter Tobin. Which isn't great.

No I'm Scottish and my partner is English which was one of the reasons he didn't feel comfortable using the name ... But I still love the name regardless and get pangs of regret that we didn't use it! ah well. Would it have been strange to use the name? (Perhaps strange is the wrong word to use?) my parents chose a French name for me and a Welsh name for my twin so I'm not so fussed about that sort of thing.

If you're a Scot you presumably pronounce the 'r' in Torben, and the chances are that your English DH doesn't, though -- which simply doesn't sound as nice. (I'm also a rhotic speaker who lives in England and deliberately avoided names with 'r' sounds when naming my son.)

Yes I do pronounce the 'r' but so does my partner as he's lived in Scotland since he was a child. Ah well, I wasn't going to change the name I chose for my son anyway, just wondered what people thought.
