Surname is 1 syllabul we were always going to use john as middle name as both grandads called that but now its going to be jack or james we arent so keen. Original choice was Harry john, which would work but not jack john. Best friend just had a boy called harry so out of question now. Tia.

My son James has Stephen as his second name, after his great grandfather. I think it fits very well regardless of surname, But I am biased!

LorLorr2 · 01/06/2017 01:10

You're right about John not fitting with ether of those names, but what about Jonathon? James Jonathon is quite catchy sounding. His mates could call him JJ.

James Jonathan is nice. James Elliot lovely! I'd go for James Elliot.

booellesmum · 01/06/2017 09:45

I would use John.
It is what you intended and has family connections.
It will be lovely for him to know his name has meaning.
After a few weeks no one else ever thinks about the middle name.
My kids are 15 and 12 and the only time middle names come up is on application forms.

booellesmum · 01/06/2017 09:48

Adding - I would also stick with Harry though if it is still your first choice.
Why can't he have the same name as your friends little boy?

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 01/06/2017 14:47

James Jonathan
Jack Arthur

MissTakesOurMaid · 01/06/2017 14:49

James John... No.
Jack John... Is ok but would end up JJ as a nn.

Jack Ross?
Jack James? Again JJ.
Jack Cole?

TeardropExplodes · 03/06/2017 20:02

Aren't Jack and John the same name? One of those odd ones, where Jack's short for John even though they are the same length?

Anyway:

Joseph
William
Henry
Michael
Finlay
Ethan

James Logan is my favourite name for a boy

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/06/2017 21:31

I'd go for James Daniel because I think it's lovely but I'm biased Wink

Nooneno1 · 03/06/2017 21:46

Im not allowed james now as its my brothers name Angry didnt think it would be an issue but apparently so!

LorLorr2 · 04/06/2017 01:10

Aw no. Jamie? Josh? Jacob?

PitilessYank · 04/06/2017 01:15

If the first and last names are monosyllabic, I would choose a middle name with two syllables, because the full name would sound maximally rhythmic that way.

zeebeedee · 04/06/2017 22:30

So if Jack and John are the same, and you now can't use James, what about Jack Harry? (or John Harry?)

Dixiestamp · 05/06/2017 12:04

Rhys

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 05/06/2017 13:53

Im not allowed james now as its my brothers name says who?

If you can't use James and don't know what goes with Jack I would stick wih Harry. In fact Harry Elliot sounds great.
Why should your friend get sole use of Harry just because she was lucky enough to conceive a few weeks' before you did, sorry.

MixedUpConfusion · 05/06/2017 14:01

I've got a James Robert but they're both family names going years back. Can be JR or JimBob (although mine would be horrified at the thought of anything but his proper name! ASD...)
