Hi all,

What do you think about the name Lydia Beatrice? Our surname rhymes with rain.

Baby due in July so I still have time to think, husband and I like traditional names, Lydia is my late Nan's middle name, and Beatrice DH's favourite Shakespeare female character (he is an English teacher!)

Other sort of names we quite like: Matilda, Evelyn, Sophia but worried about popularity of these.

Any other suggestions as I am still not sure?

Many thanks

Beautiful name, and lovely reasons for choosing it.

FurbysMakeSexNoises · 27/05/2017 14:20

Adore it! Would choose it if I ever had more. Also love Beatrix.

One of my best friends is a gorgeous soul called Lydia and she was never called Chlamydia. Her nn is Lyds though.

I far prefer Beatrice to Lydia, though Lydia is pretty enough. Matilda and Evelyn are nice too, though yes, quite popular.

Lovely combination of names.

Love it!

Lovely!

Don't worry about a name being popular. When I chose my DCs names neither were considered popular, now they're both in the top ten. Still adore their names even though when we're out, every other boy has my DS's name. My DD's name is used for roughly every fourth girlGrin

Does it bother me? Na! I feel honoured that all these strangers thought my taste in names was so stupendous that they all had to use the same names for their DCWinkWinkSmile

You've got some pretty names on your list. Go with what feels right for you & best wishes for the remainder of your pregnancy.

Lydia is beautiful. Please choose it lol

"Lovely. I prefer Beatrice to Lydia though - but that's because I always think of the rather unappealing Lydia Bennet from Pride and Prejudice. But with it being your nan's name, it will have a different association."

Came on to say exactly the same daisy!

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments! We would actually consider Beatrice as a first name if it wasn't for our surname, I would use the nickname Bea and it kind of spells out BE A PAIN which I don't like the look of. Luckily we are not Jane Austin fans, so I don't have any negative associations with that character! :)

I don't understand why Lydia isn't more popular. Smile

I have a 6 month old Lydia. Never come across another at baby groups so still unique and everyone says it's a beautiful name.

My older daughter has one of your other name choices too so great minds :)

Lydia is beautiful. I taught a little five year old Lydia and it suited her so nicely. Very elegant and classic.

I adore the name Lydia. I slightly prefer Beatrix over Beatrice, but the combo is still beautiful. Very classic.
