Thoughts? Would you think boy or girl?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
villainousbroodmare · 19/05/2017 17:43

Silly. But I'm Irish.
Boy, probably.

wickerlampshade · 19/05/2017 17:43

Daft. Is your other child called Birmingham?

MerlinEmrys · 19/05/2017 17:44

I'd think boy.

I'd also be thinking he was conceived on a drunken hen or stag weekend.

I don't like it!

CricketRuntAndRashers · 19/05/2017 17:45

Boy.

Middle or first name?

RusholmeRuffian · 19/05/2017 17:46

I wouldn't have a clue if it was a boy or girl but I would think it was weird either way.

HeyCat · 19/05/2017 17:46

I'd have assumed girl.

It means black pool which I'm not sure is great if you care about meanings.

Lightship · 19/05/2017 17:47

If you would call your offspring Wolverhampton, Hove, or Dundee.

MollyHuaCha · 19/05/2017 17:47

Please no.

Thatextrainch · 19/05/2017 17:47

Meh, its not to my taste but If people can register Venezuela and Brooklyn, why not Dublin?

barrygetamoveonplease · 19/05/2017 17:48

How about Grimsby?
Great Yarmouth?
Bray?
Dun Laoghaire?
or Ballsbridge?
See what I mean?

How about Douglas - that's a town, though admittedly not a large town.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 19/05/2017 17:50

I wouldn't have a clue whether it was a boy or girl

It's not to my taste but no worse than Chelsea, Brooklyn, Siena, Lourdes etc I suppose

Northgate · 19/05/2017 17:54

I can't separate it from the city in my head.

I wouldn't have any idea whether it was a boy or a girl either.

originalbiglymavis · 19/05/2017 18:07

Grimsby!😹

DelphiniumBlue · 19/05/2017 18:08

Why would you do that to a baby?

TheCraicDealer · 19/05/2017 18:08

I just keep thinking of my English DP doing his Bono impression, going "Bubblin' Dublin". Just no.

Cheerybigbottom · 19/05/2017 18:09

Boy. But I'd feel sorry for him.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/05/2017 18:11

Aargh. I would think Aargh. Please don't do this to a child, get a dog or something and call that Dublin...

SingaSong12 · 19/05/2017 18:14

I'd think boy. You are setting them up for a lifetime of answering why are you called that?/Are you Irish?/is your family Irish?

troodiedoo · 19/05/2017 18:15

I'd think daft parents.

It's not like there is a shortage of proper names. Come on.

caoraich · 19/05/2017 18:16

I would think very much no.

I do know a little girl called Aberdeen whose brother is Galway.

Their parents can be semi-forgiven as they're Australian and met while backpacking around Europe Confused

SpornStar · 19/05/2017 18:20

If you're going to pick an Irish place name, at least pick a place that is scenic and picturesque like Kerry...or Dingle or Muff maybe?

niceupthedance · 19/05/2017 18:22

Muff 😂

Annonymiss123 · 19/05/2017 18:22

I'd also be thinking he was conceived on a drunken hen or stag weekend

I'd be thinking s/he was named on a drunken weekend!

I'd think daft parents. It's not like there is a shortage of proper names. Come on
^^ This x100!!!!

WindwardCircle · 19/05/2017 18:23

I'd assume a child named Dublin was an American girl whose parents grandparents x 5 were Irish immigrants and the parents really want everyone to know this.

lazydog · 19/05/2017 18:24

Boy, but it's an absolutely awful name. And if I encountered a child with that name I'd definitely wonder whether he was saddled with it because of that stupid trend of naming a child after where they were conceived, which is far TMI in my opinion.
