I like Aurora nicknamed Rory and Aurelia nicknamed Rae. Which do you prefer?

Aurora nn Rory
Or, just Aurelia. Such a beautiful name shouldn't be shortened. Not to Rae!

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 15/05/2017 22:41

Aurora was on our shortlist for DD so I would go for that!

Alibubba · 15/05/2017 22:49

I love both full names. But she'll inevitably be nicknamed by her siblings so the shortenings need consideration too.

Aurelia.

I think of Rory as very much a boys' name, I don't like it for a girl at all.

Wolfiefan · 15/05/2017 22:51

I love Aurora but not Rory for a girl! Aura?
Nicknames and shorter versions tend to evolve rather than picking them out before the baby arrives.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/05/2017 22:51

Aurora, but I'd call her Aurora. Its such a beautiful elegant name.
I wouldn't want it shortned.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/05/2017 23:22

Aurora, love Rory.

Mrsknackered · 15/05/2017 23:27

Aurora, I like Rory too.
I really don't like Aurelia (sorrry!)

Sophronia · 16/05/2017 00:22

Aurelia. Aurora is getting trendy.

Kimonolady · 16/05/2017 00:24

Love Aurelia (or Aurelie.)
Aurora is too Sleeping Beauty for me.

SoftBlocks · 16/05/2017 00:28

Aurelia.

chickpeaburger · 16/05/2017 00:39

I can't take this thread seriously. The next thread was entitled "Placenta", so now I'm thinking Aurelia, Auroura (you've no idea how many times I've just had to check your spelling on that) plus I'm getting really confused. What's the word for the aur...bit round the nipples?

chickpeaburger · 16/05/2017 00:40

Found it...Areola

harderandharder2breathe · 16/05/2017 07:06

Aurora

Bananamanfan · 16/05/2017 07:07

Aurelia

SuperBeagle · 16/05/2017 07:10

Aurora.

Aurelia always screams areola to me.

GinSwigmore · 16/05/2017 07:11

Aurélie

Bananamanfan · 16/05/2017 07:22

I don't get the areola connection. You say or-ray-lee-yuh.

Rockaby · 16/05/2017 10:28

Aurora by miles! I don't really like Aurelia. It's a bit flouncy to me.

baconsandwiches · 16/05/2017 14:06

I love Aurora and Rory

Yika · 16/05/2017 14:10

I prefer Aurelia, Aurora feels odd in my mouth (it's the two or sounds together). I think Aurelia could also be shortened to Rory because it has the -ory sound already.

Enidblyton1 · 16/05/2017 14:14

Aurora to Rory would get my vote. I rather like the contrast because if she turns out to be a girly girl she'll probably prefer Aurora. If tomboyish, she has the option of Rory.

I love Aurelia too. But you cannot butcher a beautiful name by shortening to Rae. Hideous!

CricketRuntAndRashers · 16/05/2017 14:15

Both are really lovely!
But I think I prefer Aurora.

Enidblyton1 · 16/05/2017 14:15

P.s didn't mean to offend anyone called Rae! I just think it's not a very nice shortening for Aurelia

TheMysteriousJackelope · 16/05/2017 14:19

I prefer Aurelia as it sounds more classical. Rae is a pretty nickname.

Aurora reminds me of Sleeping Beauty and I don't like Rory as a nickname for a girl at all it is very Mallory Towers and jolly hockysticks imo.
