Nope, not a troll. And thank you for the insight as to why I'm a long term single mummy. I just despair as to why there are so many posts about (innocuous) baby names and advice requested on these names.

CricketRuntAndRashers · 10/05/2017 22:30

That is admittedly true. But tbh, I didn't mention the foreign part on my own thread either. People tend to be more polite when they know that you have a foreign background..

Which is generally a lovely sentiment. But unfortunately many people may not know about the background of DD's. Seeing as they have an English surname and their father (DH) is English... So they may just judge the name (IRL). One of the names I liked apparently sounded like a flue vaccine ;)

Squ1ggle · 10/05/2017 22:32

None of them are my cup of tea to be honest op. The Scottish origin of Lilias is lovely but (apologies if I've missed this) are you actually based in Scotland? If so you'll probably be fine but if not you will definitely get the lilly - ass pronunciation as mentioned up thread which may annoy you and lead to issues for your daughter.
How about Livia?

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 22:32

the OP has been confrontational from the start Heyy now, I thought you hadn't read this boring screed of a thread right through? 🤓

Btw, what about Liliana? Quite "frilly" (Seeing as you like Evangeline I kind of assumed that you aren't opposed to frilly names), it's similar to Lilias and it's a flower name, which your DH should be happy about... ?

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 22:34

Yes, I'm in Scotland and Scottish. DP is English but the way he says Lilias is the same as me. Livia is really nice! but I'm not sure about it as a stand alone name.

CoralieConfused Just the first few, then I got bored Smile

ArseyTussle · 10/05/2017 22:34

longterm, do you go onto other boards and berate people for posting threads about those topics?

Juniper - not keen OP, but I like Juno
Evangeline - I like it, but it will end up shortened to yawnsville Eva/Evie
Lilias - see above but shortened to yawnsville Lily

Jane - I'm with you. Megadrab.
Violetta - I like it, but it does remind me a bit of fancy ice cream from my youth
Constance - I only like Connie

Of your other thoughts, I love Sorrel and January.

What about Tabitha? Saffron? Hazel? Robyn? Bess? Briar?

ArseyTussle · 10/05/2017 22:36

If you like Linnet, would Wren work for you?

longtermsinglemummy · 10/05/2017 22:37

ArseyTussle Nope...I go onto my phone, tap on 'Active' and these gems appear there.

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 22:37

Briar is adorable! I also love Bramble, but DP just laughed like a drain at that one...the nerve of the man

OP posts:
RiseToday · 10/05/2017 22:38

How about Viola? I like Briar too!

CricketRuntAndRashers · 10/05/2017 22:40

Oh... I do love Viola (it's one of our top 2 names for DD). And am actually really loving this thread because some of the suggestions are simply adorable and or gorgeous. And we're still very unsure about the middle names..

ArseyTussle · 10/05/2017 22:42

OK longterm. You do know you don't actually have to open a thread that's listed in Active, don't you? And even if you do, you don't have to post. It's not like someone calls the peelers if you just move on by.

How about Rosa? sorry I like short names

longtermsinglemummy · 10/05/2017 22:47

ArseyTussle You're completely right, I don't. And normally I would read and do nothing. But the OP was dismissive from the outset. Plus had bloody stupid names.

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 22:48

I am deeply upset, deeply

Ollycat · 10/05/2017 22:48

I like Constance and Jane but the rest, to me, are a tad pretentious. Speaking as someone with an unusual name which is, more often then not spelt incorrectly (and my spelling is the most usual for the name) I really don't get the MN obsession with unique/ unusual names!

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 22:49

The journalist Clover Stroud has a daughter named Evangeline I have just realised from Instagram.

Hmm - Clover is actually v nice name, if a bit bovine
