Op, I think you will choose whatever name suits you best. Good luck.

toffee1000 · 10/05/2017 22:59

Juniper/Briar no. Bramble is just ridiculous. It's not a name it's a plant. A nasty spiky one too. If you like nature names why go for a spiky one as opposed to something a little gentler?

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 23:05

It's a sweet sort of spiky though

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 23:13

No really, I'm not actually considering Bramble 🤡

OP posts:
CricketRuntAndRashers · 10/05/2017 23:14

Coralie

Too bad. Bramble would be a lovely middle name imo :)

elephantscansing · 10/05/2017 23:15

Lilias is never a Scottish name. Never heard it in my life.

Jane is lovely.

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 23:16

Cricket Would you consider it for a middle name? It is really sweet!

Lilias is TOO a Scottish name Grin

Coralie
It would be adorable, wouldn't it...? But my grandmother doesn't speak English and my mother's English is a bit wonky as well. Bramble would lead to "Brrrrrumbluh"! ;)

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 23:21

Ah, understood! Grin

OP,

What are your thoughts on Lydia?

CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 23:29

Marilyn I rather like Lydia, but DP and I seem to know loads of our own age so it just seems too linked to them.
He's suggested Alexandra which I'm afraid I don't like. And February...

OP posts:
CoralieConfused · 10/05/2017 23:31

He should start his own thread

HeadFullofSteam · 10/05/2017 23:46

Lilleth?
I think Juniper Jane is awesome.

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 10/05/2017 23:57

^^ Fair enough!

Some totally random ones (I have RTFT, but apologies if anyone's already suggested any):

  • Raphaella/ Raphaela
  • Cecilia
  • Niamh
  • Elise
  • Ophelia

Anyway, good luck with her entry into the world, whatever name you end up choosing (afraid can't remember when she's due?) Flowers

toffee1000 · 11/05/2017 00:29

He suggested February? Oh dear. Month names are always a bit debated on MN. April/May/June are ok. January is pushing it. But February is just daft.

lrliml · 11/05/2017 02:07

Really can't picture a baby Jane...plain Jane...just not a name for a baby imo! Works as a middle name though, maybe a compromise?
January a bit 'out there', and as you seem a bit annoyed when people don't agree with your choices you might have a lifetime of justifying this choice to relatives etc with more traditional views?
Hadn't heard of it before but Lilias is nice, would be shortened to Lilly?

PyjamasBySeven · 11/05/2017 07:21

Thanks for this thread, OP. Unlike certain a certain other PP I was delighted to stumble across it on the 'Active' board while pulling my hair out trying to get my dd back to sleep in the early hours last night!

I have taught both a Constance (always called Connie) and an Evangeline (known as Evie). Both were lovely girls (probably now in their 20s), so the names have very positive associations for me. It is a bit of a shame though, IMHO, that the abbreviated forms are becoming so popular.

How about Florence? Seems to fit with the nature names you like, but in the same style of names your dh likes.

Or, I wondered about Magdalene - seems of a similar ilk to Evangeline and, while not a virtue name, has religious associations that might please your puritan DH (though perhaps the wrong denomination WinkCould be abbreviated to Maggie or Lena.

FWIW, I also think Mildred and Millicent might be due revivals.

CoralieConfused · 11/05/2017 07:42

Brilliant - DP suggested Magdalene last night! I was very surprised Grin Or perhaps I'm just pressing him too much for names now and he's getting confused...I rather like it! Glad you enjoyed the thread

mathanxiety · 11/05/2017 07:50

I like his better but I like Lilias from your list too.

Jane Constance would be gorgeous. Jane is very hip where I am. It is most definitely not middle name material any more.

Juniper sounds like a sidekick of Twangy Pearl the Elastic Girl.
Jumping Juniper... Jumpin' Juniper Jane (Yeehah!)

Martha is the name of a hen. I can't hear the name without getting a mental image of feathers and clucking and pecking.

mathanxiety · 11/05/2017 07:50

x-post - Magdalene is fab.

Reow · 11/05/2017 07:55

Connie Jane?

BertrandRussell · 11/05/2017 07:56

Magdalen without the -e is much better........
