I love Nina and Finn

CricketRuntAndRashers · 10/05/2017 12:18

TheGrumpy

Well, I have an Italian colleague (early 20ies) and a little cousin named Alice (pronounced Alitsche), I think it would work in several European languages and go very well with Persephone.

Sofia/Sophie, Anna, Ginevra, Beatrice (I know that this one works in Italian, French and English. I'm not sure about Dutch, tbh), Giorgia, Noemi, Viola, Vittoria. Or maybe Louise, Camille, Rose or Léonie?

MerryMarigold · 10/05/2017 12:40

Oh I love Noemi.

But anyway, still prefer Mieke. It's very cool. Prefer Mieke Josefin, but Mieke Noemi is also nice. Need to think of other dd's name too and whether it goes eg. I don't think Roisin and Persephone would go at all, but Roisin and Mieke would (both similar 'style' I think). 2 European names would sound good together too. But Mieke and Emily not so much. So, maybe tell us your dd's first name (not middle)

TheGrumpySquirrel · 10/05/2017 13:10

Love Rose and Alice (Italian pronunciation) as middle names for Persephone but close family little cousin is Rose and so I don't really want to use it, also people will always pronounce Alice wrong over here.

Léonie is nice but doesn't really work with O'Neill? Or does it?

Not keen on Noemi I'm afraid.

My DD first name is Emmylou (she has a different surname though) so Emily isn't an option.

DD is Emmylou Francesca - so that gives you an idea

I've got the harmony test next Tuesday so I'll know shortly after that if it's a boy or girl and that will hopefully make it easier! Will update..

I really like Emmylou Francesca :)

As for DC2.

I really like Frederick something O'Neill. (Maybe Frederick Florian, Samuel, Sebastian, Gabriel, Raphael, Emil, Thomas, Nathaniel, Davide, Philip?)

As for girl's name...Sorry, maybe I missed an update. Are you looking for a middle name for Persephone or...?

MerryMarigold · 10/05/2017 13:38

Emmylou is very distinctive. I always thought it was an American name. Does it have European heritage?

Hmmmm...sorry I think it really, really doesn't go AT ALL with Persephone. With Mieke it is fine as they are both a bit unusual/ modern, not 'classic' (in the UK).

Let's hope it's a boy and all your problems will be solved!

CricketRuntAndRashers · 10/05/2017 13:42

I personally think that Emmylou Francesca would go with Apolline, Vittoria, Elisabetta (ok, two Es..), Fleur, Victoire or maybe something like Maxima, Léontine, Astraea, Philippa, Juno or Léopoldine? But that's just my opinion/taste.

I personally think that Emmylou does work with Persephone. But as I said, that's just my personal opinion.

Mrsknackered · 10/05/2017 13:46

Mieke and Leon Smile

TheGrumpySquirrel · 10/05/2017 13:47

Yes Emmylou and Persephone are quite different styles (yes Emmylou is American like the singer, Francesca is a nod to the Italian side) but I'm not sure they are incompatible. I agree Emmylou and Mieke sound ok as siblings. Ditto Emmylou and Freddie. Is Emmylou and Leon too many L's?

OP posts:
vichill · 10/05/2017 13:48

Love Nina Persephone.
I like Finbar Julien.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 10/05/2017 13:50

I like Frederick O'Neill a lot but Leon is more unusual and I like being a bit different. Boy will def be Freddie or Leon, girl is proving a lot harder! Mieke appears to be the front runner, followed by Persephone.
What about Josefin (Josie) as a first name which goes nicely with Emmylou? Don't like nickname Jo though.

purplepaisley · 10/05/2017 13:56

Nina or Persephone for a girl.

I think Nina O'Neill sounds ok!

I know a Persephone known as Poppy, and have also seen it shortened to Seffy. It's my imaginary girl's name (I only have boys).

I love Leon but think Freddie might work better with your surname? Not keen on Finbarr.

CocoLoco87 · 10/05/2017 14:02

I love Mieke Josefin but also love Josefin Mieke with Josie as nn. If I was European I'd go for Camille with Millie as nn. But we have a close family member with Millie as nn.

Love Leon too. You have picked beautiful names!

KanyeWesticle · 10/05/2017 14:13

Josefin (Josie) works really well with Emmylou.

buzzmoon · 10/05/2017 14:48

Love love love Persephone! What would it shorten to?

TheGrumpySquirrel · 10/05/2017 14:54

Penny or Sephy I guess.

ScarlettMN · 10/05/2017 14:58

I have a friend named Persephone - we all just call her Percy!

CricketRuntAndRashers · 10/05/2017 14:59

Persephone is so cute. Persie could be a nn as well, I guess.

buzzmoon · 10/05/2017 15:02

Oh I love Penny!! I might have to steal your name and add to my list!!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 10/05/2017 15:10

Go for it buzz I don't mind!

buzzmoon · 10/05/2017 15:13

Love Sebastian Finbar for a boy too.
