I don't think it's chavvy at all (I hate that term), the first thing that sprung to mind when I saw it was that it was a nice biblical name.

tygr · 01/05/2017 15:54

I don't know anyone called Levi and I wasn't aware of the connotations posted above. I would have assumed from the name that the boy is from a Jewish family. I quite like it - not as much as some other Hebrew names like Reuben, Raphael and Mordecai

(Obviously it makes me think of Jeans but unless your surname is Strauss that shouldn't be a problem).

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 01/05/2017 16:01

I think it's really nice actually, I would use it if we didn't have a comedy surname. Clearly don't name any future sister Jean Grin

Teatowelfairy · 01/05/2017 16:06

I love the name Levi and did plan on naming DS(10) this.
However, throughout my pregnancy whenever we mentioned the name people's first response was "after the jeans?" Hmm
Very few people knew it was biblical. In the end we gave DS a different Hebrew name, but I still love the name Levi.

LaGattaNera · 01/05/2017 16:09

ooh very nice name yes - doesn't sound chavvy to me really like it

zjma6 · 01/05/2017 16:10

The baby next to me in the maternity ward was called Levi. The family of that baby were enough to make me want to go home immediately, catheter or no catheter. 3 years on and I still here then saying that name over and over in my head.

Doobius · 01/05/2017 16:15

I really like it and don't think its 'chivvy' at all.

Teatowelfairy · 01/05/2017 16:19

lightcola I'm the same when I hear Benjamin . Always thought it was a perfectly nice name until a night stuck on maternity ward.

GuardianOfMyGalaxy · 01/05/2017 16:22

A woman from my antenatal group just had twin boys and called them Levi and Zane.
I really like it. It's recognisable without being overly popular.

Empireoftheclouds · 01/05/2017 16:24

Popular chav name in the latter part of the 90's

Bubblysqueak · 01/05/2017 16:25

I know several Levi's but they are all girls.

Jooni · 01/05/2017 16:39

I really like it

AntigoneJones · 01/05/2017 16:42

what the FUCK is a 'chav name'?
It is such a horrible thing to say. Some kids picked it up as meaning 'poorer than we are' in about year 4 and took to shouting it at my son.
I expect their parents were arseholes, as well.

Sophronia · 01/05/2017 17:05

I like it and don't think it's "chavvy".

SmokeCloak · 01/05/2017 17:50

I love the name Levi.

SnowinApril123 · 01/05/2017 17:58

I immediately think Levi Bellfield, the serial killer who killed Millie Dowler amongst others.

WorryLessCherishEveryDay · 01/05/2017 18:04

I quite like it

RoseAndRose · 01/05/2017 18:07

I think it is a lovely name, which I would strongly associate with the Hebrew-speaking community.

I think the brand of jeans has name it a little problematic for other communities.

EssentialHummus · 01/05/2017 18:08

I like it, no negative associations here. In Israel "Lavi" (lion cub) is increasingly popular.

GoodyGoodyGumdrops · 01/05/2017 18:23

I know two teenage boys called Levi. One is Jewish, the other is not. Both are quirky, cool, nice kids. Not chavvy at all. I like the name.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 01/05/2017 18:28

I like it.

Weren't Reuben and Levi the twins in 'Joseph'?

DS has a biblical name and I got a lot of catsbummouth and 'That's very modern..!' type comments. Luckily I'm good at ignoring people.

DramaAlpaca · 01/05/2017 18:52

I like it, it's a cool name I think.

For those of you describing it, or any other name, as 'chavvy', you should be ashamed of yourselves for using such a derogatory term.

It's quite possible to say you don't like a name without being offensive.

BestIsWest · 01/05/2017 18:56

Ashamed of all of you who deemed it ''Chavvy'. Have a good think about what you mean by that.

OP. It was my grandfather's name although he pronounced it to rhyme with navy. I think it's lovely.
