Beautiful girl's name

Listening to the radio this morning was struck by the name Imelda which I think is beautiful but very underused, in fact I don't think I've ever come across one in real life. I've finished having babies but thought I'd suggest it in here for those looking for a name for their baby girl. What do others think?

Oh I don't like it. It reminds me of a witch

EssentialHummus · 28/04/2017 11:45

I'm neutral towards it. My first thought was the actress Imelda Staunton.

Unfortunately, I'm of the age when my first contact with this name was through Grange Hill. There was a character called Imelda in that...

But that could just be my age. I'm 44. Other people might think of Imelda Staunton.

I'm not that much a fan of it though...I do think there are much prettier names out there.

I like Gwendoline and Guinevere and Morgana...bit Arthurian maybe but they're lovely.

I think of the bully from Grange Hill too

MadameJosephine · 28/04/2017 12:17

I'd think of Imelda Marcos and her big shoe collection.

Jooni · 28/04/2017 13:39

Yes, Marcos is the big problem with this one...

I get it though. I love Isolde/Isolda which is similar and very underused. And Zelda, but I wouldn't because of the video games.

I love it! Love the nn Immie but hate Imogen. And Imelda is so pretty!

I think I'll have to put it on our list...

zen1 · 28/04/2017 17:12

Yup, Grange Hill and shoes!

MadameJosephine · 28/04/2017 20:40

Yay! It made someone's list!

MAdame

Yes, it did. ;)

And somebody on "my name thread" even called it lovely :)

SuperBeagle · 28/04/2017 22:23

I don't like it. I agree that it sounds like a witch.

Labtest7 · 28/04/2017 22:43

Grange Hill for me too. I think Phil Redmond must have bee not bullied by an Imelda as he also named the Brookie bully this!

frazzlebedazzle · 28/04/2017 22:50

Yep Grange Hill for me too - classic!

Sunshineandlaughter · 28/04/2017 23:34

I love this name. I'd have nn Mel
