Any thoughts on whether Mary is ready for a revival? It's a family name and the more I think about it the more cute it sounds for a little girl - feminine, pretty, classic and strong. Or am I getting carried away?

I also like Joan.

I think Mary would be lovely for a little girl. Am not so keen on Joan.

Chathamhouserules · 26/04/2017 19:27

I love it! I think it is due a revival. I'm not sure the world is ready for Joan again yet, but give it time! I think there will be Barbara/Joan/Wendy's aplenty soon.
But I love Mary for right now!

youngestisapsycho · 26/04/2017 19:27

I like Mary. It's nice simple, pretty girls name that I would think is not very common these days.

Chathamhouserules · 26/04/2017 19:27

And it gives her a strong chance of a lead role in nativity

hopsalong · 26/04/2017 19:28

Love them both and think they're both chic, cool names (Joan Didion!) more than ready for a comeback, but equally brilliant if they stay unfashionable. Along with Agnes, they were my at the top of my hypothetical girls' list (ended up with two DSs).

CocoLoco87 · 26/04/2017 19:28

Yes to Mary. Not so keen on Joan, partly because it rhymes with moan

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 26/04/2017 19:28

I don't like it. A frumpy name to me.

autumnkate · 26/04/2017 19:29

I love them both. Thought about a little Joni (Mitchell) myself

Sophronia · 26/04/2017 19:37

Love them both.

Sophronia · 26/04/2017 19:38

Joanie/Joni is really cute.

BounceBounceSplishSplash · 26/04/2017 19:41

Agree with above, much prefer Joni/Joanie rather than Joan.

workshyfop · 26/04/2017 19:43

I love both.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 26/04/2017 19:44

I like Mary. I would consider it myself if I were to have a daughter.

I prefer Jean to Joan.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/04/2017 19:55

Mary is lovely classy strong yet gentle. Its definitely due a come a revival. Joan is horrible and harsh

badhotfanny · 26/04/2017 19:57

It is dd1's middle name. A family name. We would never have considered using it for a first name and w Ed isn't pick it because we liked the name, but I do actually really like it the more I think about it.

ToffeeCaramel · 26/04/2017 19:57

I love the name Mary.

Justchanged · 26/04/2017 19:59

great to see the love here. I remember when I first met an Emma my age that it seemed old-fashioned and now it's one of my favourite names. Mary has the same vibe to me.

I have an Aunty Mary (nice lady) and an Aunty Joan (miserable old bat) so my opinion is coloured by them.

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 26/04/2017 20:11

I persoanlly love Joanne.

But Mary is also really nice.

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 26/04/2017 20:11

*personally

McSleepy · 26/04/2017 20:15

I know a 2 year old Mary. It is a lovely name however all I can think of is Mary and Joseph. I think it works as a baby and older person name but can't imagine a teenager Mary...

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/04/2017 20:16

❤️ Mary.
Not keen on Joan.

Hopelessromantic1988 · 26/04/2017 20:22

That's my name and I'm only 27. I absolutely hate it.

It does have the advantage of making you appear sensible and from a middle class religious background though! 😀

frazzlebedazzle · 26/04/2017 20:53

Not a fan of Mary, sorry. Joanie and Jeanie are super cute!

Nancy91 · 26/04/2017 20:58

I think Mary is a beautiful name
