Oliver or Joshua

Current two favourite boys names, are Oliver and Joshua, I don't mind that they are popular, where I live they don't seem to be anyway.

Which do you prefer?

Joshua. Really don't like Ollie.

Oliver

As a visitor to several nurseries/primaries a week, I can tell you there is one of each in every class, if that makes a difference.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 26/04/2017 08:03

I like them both, but I'd go for Joshua.

Kalina1 · 26/04/2017 09:45

I prefer the full name Oliver but do not like the short version Ollie at all.

Chasingsquirrels · 26/04/2017 09:47

I have a Joshua who has been Josh from a few weeks old.
I also like Oliver, but I don't like Ollie, Olly or Ol.

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 26/04/2017 09:54

Joshua seems less popular to me, personally.

But I do prefer Oliver...

YouBloodyWhat · 26/04/2017 10:49

I think Joshua is great.

I don't understand Oliver's popularity at all. Not my kind of name.

Mumoftheark · 26/04/2017 12:04

Thank you.
I imagine the shorter versions will be used more even if not by me?
I love both names, although husband isn't keen on either so we shall see 🙄

I like them both - sorry, that's not very helpful. I like the shortenings of both too. If I had to choose, I think I would go for Oliver.

Is there one of them that goes slightly better with your surname?

pipilangstrumpf · 26/04/2017 14:03

Your husband isn't keen on either!?

How about finding a name you BOTH love?

Personally I don't like either name but it shouldn't really matter what we think.

leanandgreen · 27/04/2017 19:42

Those are the exact two names we currently have and ATM Oliver is winning.

Rockaby · 27/04/2017 19:50

Oh it's a really close call as I like them both about the same!

Think I very slightly prefer Joshua.

Loulou2kent · 27/04/2017 20:00

I've got a Joshua & he's the only one in his year. He gets called Josh/Joshy too. I also loved the name Oliver. But I love his name Smile obviously!

Dontrocktheboat · 27/04/2017 22:08

Joshua

Don't know any little Joshuas but lots of Oliver's. Find Oliver a bit wet and uninspired.

TheExuberant1 · 28/04/2017 22:20

I love Oliver but there are just too many around at the moment. You will be turning your head every two minutes when in a theme park!

mum2be2boys · 28/04/2017 22:30

Love both names, they were both on our short list for both of our boys!

I'd pick Joshua :-)

Mumoftheark · 28/04/2017 23:42

@pipilangstrumpf if only we could lol.
This is dc3 we've learnt the first 2 times we will never find a name we both love - completely different tastes in that area.

Both go well with our surname. Our DS1 was very nearly Joshua but he just didn't look like one.
We don't seem to have any Oliver's where we live, which is odd seeing as how popular it is. Think there's a few Joshua's in my sons school but they are year 5/6 I think.

If going by full name I much prefer Joshua but like Oliver too

But I really dislike Josh where as I find Olly nice enough

thethoughtfox · 29/04/2017 08:24

They are both really common.

PodgeBod · 30/04/2017 02:04

Joshua
