Thanks!

It made me think of a herb too, sorry I don't like that at all.

TheHuntingOfTheSarky · 25/04/2017 20:17

Please, please don't. Imagine him having to spell it to every new person he meets for the rest of his life. Put yourself in his shoes. Children hate that sort of thing.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/04/2017 20:18

Not keen.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 25/04/2017 20:30

Adore it but am Scottish and massive fan of Sorley Maclean.

Wolfiefan · 25/04/2017 20:31

Are you Irish? What's the non anglicised version?

buttercup54321 · 25/04/2017 20:32

Horrible. Sore ie painful.

ItsOut · 25/04/2017 20:36

It's a no from me too. Sorry. I was sorely tempted to make a joke but I can't think of one.

BTW. If it's actually an Irish name then it's ok.

BackforGood · 25/04/2017 20:38

TO my English eyes, it looks - as everyone else has said - like sorely, as in sorely missed, etc., etc. Which sounds very sad.
If it is pronounced differently (you've not said where you live) then it might be OK where you are, but in English speaking places, it's not really a very positive thing to call a child.

smashyourglasses · 25/04/2017 20:39

Awful

Chiliprepper · 25/04/2017 20:43

I like it! It's a well known but not widely used name in my part of the world. Makes me think of Sorley Boy Macdonnell. Also know a very cute toddler by the name and don't think they've had any issues with it...

sexymuthafunker · 25/04/2017 20:51

Ah sorry I just saw that you said it was for a boy...

I have not heard of Sorley Maclane. So, assuming you are on a Celtic tip how about Rory / Ruairi? Sounds similar but doesn't make me think someone's passed away... Hmm

TortoiseBeep · 25/04/2017 20:52

Sorely needed. That's what I'd think of.

YNK · 25/04/2017 20:55

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorley_(given_name)

It's like scone - it should have a hard o....as in gone

EpoxyResin · 25/04/2017 20:58

"He will be sorely missed..."

But I actually don't hate it, and if i loved it (which perhaps I would if it had some meaning or significance to me) I'd use it.

YNK · 25/04/2017 20:59

Summer warrior a negative name?
I don't think so!
It's a lovely strong name, please use it OP

starryskies78 · 25/04/2017 21:00

Sorry op, I don't like it either.

mikado1 · 25/04/2017 21:02

I'd be sorely tempted to pick another name!

Sophronia · 25/04/2017 21:38

I prefer Somerled

AlwaysTheWinner · 25/04/2017 21:40

Love it but I'm Scottish. It sounds nothing like sorely in my accent!

HoratioNightboy · 25/04/2017 21:49

I hope you're not in England OP, as it;s not go down too well there!

Sorley was vetoed by XH, to my disgust, but it's a name I love. My grandad was a friend of Sorley MacLean so I grew up with the name. I think you should go for it - there aren't enough of them around!

English peeps - it's like sorry with an 'L'.

Namelesswonder · 25/04/2017 21:51

Yup, like it. I know a couple, but I'm in Scotland where it's more mainstream.

toffee1000 · 25/04/2017 21:54

No. Sounds like a place name or, again, sorely. Not many people will have heard of Sorley MacLean in general.

iismum · 25/04/2017 22:10

Wow! I had no idea that Sorley was so little known outside Scotland. To me it's a fairly usual and really lovely name. I'd use the Gaelic (Somhairle).

YNK · 25/04/2017 22:23

People appear to dislike it based on their mispronunciation?
I had absolutely no idea that the English would be unfamiliar with this lovely name either!
Crazy!

FeedTheSharkAndItWIllBite · 25/04/2017 22:31

I really like it.

Soren, Sorin or Somerled (a name personally love. And it's actually the Norse version of Sorley, I think...) are imo also really nice and may work better in England (if you are in England)?
