I absolutely adore the name Kit but my dad isn't convinced and feels that it's more of a nickname than a 'proper' name - does anyone else feel the same? Any other thoughts??

Nickname for Christopher. Put a full name on the BC and use the nickname?

LauraPalmersBodybag · 23/04/2017 20:21

I think it's a great name, no need for Christopher unless that's the name you want.

dahliaaa · 23/04/2017 20:22

It's a great name. I know a couple and both have it on birth certificate.

NoYouDontKnowItAll · 23/04/2017 20:22

It's a proper name isn't it? Although Kit-Kat and Kit Bag would cross my mind

LuxuryWoman2017 · 23/04/2017 20:23

It's fabulous and I love it.

DramaAlpaca · 23/04/2017 20:23

Kit's lovely, but I'd only use it as a nickname for Christopher.

As an aside, if you are naming a child you don't need to take your dad's opinion into account you know. It's up to you and your partner.

Calphurnia · 23/04/2017 20:23

It was on my list.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/04/2017 20:27

Kit can be a nick name for Kristian too.

Yellowcups · 23/04/2017 20:28

Knight rider!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/04/2017 20:35

What's it got to do with your Dad. Confused.
Christopher 'Kit' Is lovely

user1464799068 · 23/04/2017 20:42

I like the name Christopher but I'm trying to avoid names with the letter 's' in them, so that wouldn't really work.

I'm aware that I don't have to listen to my dad but I think it's important that my family like the name, it also made me think that other people would feel the same way but it seems that quite a few people think it's a lovely name by itself, which is reassuring as I'm probably going to name him Kit.

If your surname is something like Harrington, then it works as a standalone name. If your surname is something like James or Scott, it doesn't.

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 23/04/2017 22:53

Our son is called Kit. Not short for Christopher, he is Kit on his birth certificate.

Not a word of a lie we have only have people say how much they love his name. Not that it mattered but it is nice 😊
He has a longer very traditional middle name and Kit sounds great with our surname.

If you love it then use it

buttercup54321 · 23/04/2017 23:05

I really like Kit. Would be fine on BC if it works with your surname.

grufallosfriend · 24/04/2017 07:20

Looks and sounds feminine to me, probably because of Kit, Kitty.

ColourfulOrangex · 24/04/2017 14:51

First thing I thought of was night rider lol I do like the name though

Ames33 · 24/04/2017 14:51

Love the name kit!! Xx

limpit · 24/04/2017 14:53

First thing I thought of was that the Rooneys chose it for their son. This automatically rules it out as a name option. Grin

ShotsFired · 24/04/2017 14:54

Single syllable first names are very harsh sounding if you also have a single syllable surname.

You always end up sounding like you are barking your details at people who ask for your name.

It also sounds a bit infantile if you try and think of a (say) "Judge Kit presiding over the courtroom".

(Guess how I know this!)

ZeldaWasMyGransName · 24/04/2017 14:57

Love it.

flumpybear · 24/04/2017 14:59

I really like it too - I do prefer longer names in general but love Kit and Tate also Kier was on my list too

shitgibbon · 24/04/2017 15:19

I went to school with a female Kit. I liked it.
