Hi I really like the name Nicholas but I've read on mumsnet about a potential nickname of nickerless...I had never heard this before but would hate to give son a name he'd get teased with at school. Opinions please...and while you're at it any other classic boy name suggestions gratefully accepted!

I really like it. Classic, under-used name.

I've never thought of 'knicker-less'.

I think it's great and I love Nick and Nico. DN is Nicholas, he's had no problems afaik.

Nickerless girls shouldn't climb trees.
It is DH's middle name.Not a fan.

Ah this is the kind of thing I can't get out of my head now....love the name but is this a likely teasing scenario?! Don't want to give a name that lends itself to teasing. I had honestly never thought of knickerless before reading it on mumsnet!!

I personally really don't like it. But that's a personal opinion. I don't think it's a bad name or anything...

TempsPerdu · 24/04/2017 13:43

I've really been liking Nicholas lately, and I love the nickname Nico. Every name has potential for teasing if kids are determined enough to find it - e.g. I'm a teacher and an Ellie in one of my classes was plagued with 'Smelly Ellie' for months! Not a reason to dismiss a name imo.

Other classic names;
Christopher
Jonathan
Alexander
Daniel
Matthew
William

I went to school with 3 or 4 of them. They were all known as Nick. I never heard anyone calling them "knickerless". I did hear nicholARSE and Dickolas. But then again, schoolboys call each other arses and dicks basically every day, regardless of their name.

Rockaby · 24/04/2017 15:00

Love it! It's on my list for non existent, as yet, baby Grin!

barleyteddy · 24/04/2017 15:22

Hi thanks for the comments.... Think it's still up there on my list!

I have a teenage Nicholas, he has never been called nickerless. He was known a Nicky until around 18mths ago when his friends started calling him Nico instead.

Lennielala · 24/04/2017 15:39

My dads name is Nicholas and he gets Nick

Montsti · 24/04/2017 20:53

We always joked about "knickerless" at school...I've never really liked it and I know LOADS!

I also don't like the nn.Nick unless for an adult...Nico is nice though!

grufallosfriend · 25/04/2017 15:27

I like Nicholas.
