I work with children so I'm well aware that some names are spelt differently

I would spell all of them the way you have with the exception of Elliot.

I would ask for all of those if I was going to write them down. I think it's really important to get names right.

However, we have an Elliot. Nobody asks. Everybody just spells it the way they think it is spelled. His birthday cards are always a mix of Elliot, Elliott and Eliot (and lovely 6 year old DM went with Ellyot last year!).

Yes I would as it would annoy me when I was younger when people spelt my name wrong.

I would only ask about Darcey I think because it's a 'newer' name and so we don't seem to have settled on a spelling yet. It's also a name quite popular with those wishing to give their child a unique name and therefore can be Darci, Darcee, Darsy or Darcie in addition to the obvious Darcey/Darcy.

The others I would spell in the generally accepted way (as in your post) and would expect the parent to mention if they'd gone for a different spelling.

DD has a name with a variety of spelling options and I can't say it's ever bothered me or her when someone has written it incorrectly. It does annoy her when it's pronounced differently though.

Exactly what through said. I would spell Elliott with two ts unless I was told otherwise.

Yes though, if I was writing the names down I would probably ask how to spell them. "Is that two ts or one?" "Is that a yn or an in?" etc.

Why would you spell Elliot as Elliott without asking? Elliot is the original.

I didn't say I would spell it without asking . I said I would always ask, but if I had to guess I'd usually say Elliott as that is the spelling I have encountered most frequently.

I check the Darcey/Darcy spelling.
I've also seen both Elliot and Eliott.

I always check spellings of names anyway. Even names you think you know can catch you out, as different cultures spell them differently (Josef and Ewa in DD's class, for example).
