Peter or David?

Family reasons to choose one or the other.....

I quite like them both, (and think they will be the only one in their class!) but would be grateful for thoughts.

Does anyone know a Peter or a David under the age of about 25?!

Thanks. :)

DC4 middle name is Peter and DC1 has two friends called Peter. We're in Scotland where older, solid names still seem in favour (although I'm English and all four of mine have 'spell-it-out kinda names Smile)

Sophronia · 22/04/2017 22:47

Love both. Prefer Peter though as I don't like Dave.

FunnysInLaJardin · 22/04/2017 22:51

DS1's middle name is David after his welsh grandfather who was Dewi. So its a David from me!

SallyAlbrightsCollegeRoomate · 22/04/2017 22:53

I like both, but if pushed I'd say Peter (mainly because I don't like Dave...)

ilovechoc1987 · 22/04/2017 22:58

Y grandfather is called Peter and he's a wonderland man, I also had a friend growing up called Peter and he's only 28 now.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 22/04/2017 23:00

David

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 22/04/2017 23:02

I know a Peter who is 13/14 (year 9); don't know any Davids who are under 25

Like both names but marginally prefer Peter to David

sassolino · 22/04/2017 23:09

Peter is lovely. We know two Peters, one is 7, the other one is 9. Suits them both well.

Obsidian77 · 22/04/2017 23:14

Both great.

AlexandraEiffel · 22/04/2017 23:34

Peter - I considered it for mine

UrsulaPandress · 22/04/2017 23:35

Peter. Strong and rock like.

hoddtastic · 22/04/2017 23:39

Baby David- Royle family.

Peter is miles better.

MarieMorgan · 22/04/2017 23:43

Not sure why some are so adamant that names will be shortened. As said earlier, my dh friend is called David and is never called Dave. He also has a friend called Peter who is never called Pete. I wouldn't dream of calling either of them Pete or Dave as it just isn't their name.

NannyR · 22/04/2017 23:49

I know of a toddler Peter and think it's a really sweet name that works well for all ages. I love John/Johnny too.

SuperBeagle · 23/04/2017 00:05

Peter means "stone", David means "beloved". I think David has the nicer meaning. Grin

StillHungryy · 23/04/2017 01:28

David, but then all the peters I know are dicks

MitzyLeFrouf · 23/04/2017 01:35

I know a Peter who's about 4 and two babies called David. I don't think the names are that rare in the younger generation. I'd plump for Peter as there are just so many Davids in the world but fewer Peters.

SumAndSubstance · 23/04/2017 03:11

I love Peter, not so keen on David, but it's okay. I teach a Peter who is about 13, lovely boy. I've taught a couple of others in the last few years, but taught more Davids, maybe a dozen?

Fozzleyplum · 23/04/2017 07:00

I have a 15 year old Peter. As well as simply liking the name, it doesn't label him as being from a particular time or class. I find a lot of the names that are currently popular, too "try hard" or a bit pretentious for my taste.

StinkPickle · 23/04/2017 07:03

Peter

Newsand · 23/04/2017 07:38

Thankyou,DH and I have both decided we are leaning towards Peter, but will wait until after the birth to decide for sure. Oddly enough, neither of us want 'Peter David' with David as the middle name.... not sure why when David was the other option!!

I am not fond of either Pete or Dave as shortenings, but DH is a Richard and that is never shortened to Rich or Rick, so hopefully we will avoid that!!

I'd love something a little more unusual, but truth is I am worried about going 'off' a more unusual name. Both Peter and David as people mentioned is a good name for all ages.

Thankyou all so much- it has really helped us firm up our ideas!

Peter.

ChristopherWren · 23/04/2017 07:45

Both lovely names - if I had to choose I'd choose David.

timeforabrewnow · 23/04/2017 07:55

David

BertrandRussell · 23/04/2017 08:01

They are both lovely. And it's so nice to see truly unusual names being used Grin

Peter's my favourite of the two-although a baby Davy would be sweet. But Peter's better for a grown up. There were 1394 Davids last year by the way. And only 330 Peters!
