Peter or David?

Family reasons to choose one or the other.....

I quite like them both, (and think they will be the only one in their class!) but would be grateful for thoughts.

Does anyone know a Peter or a David under the age of about 25?!

Thanks. :)

I think they are both great and currently underused names. DS is 19 and his middle name is Peter after my late father.

Amazing that he will probably be "unique" with such a traditional name!

Newsand · 22/04/2017 17:13

Thanks all.:) I was feeling a bit unsure about both.

I recently came across a baby Jeffrey and thought how nice it was to hear that again- maybe Peter and David are due a revival!

I like both, but would choose Peter.

Sleeperandthespindle · 22/04/2017 17:19

My DS has a similar name - he's 4. He loves meeting men with the same name. As practically every other man aged 30-45 shares his name, this is a common occurrence.
I love it. Suits him.
Out of yours - slightly prefer Peter. I have taught 3 primary aged Davids in 20 years.
Also Richard?

ScarletSienna · 22/04/2017 17:19

I really like the name Peter and know one under 8.

BillyButtfuck · 22/04/2017 17:21

I love Peter, we have a Peter Pan themed playroom which I adore! It's a great name and should really come back! Although it would be a shame if it became an overly popular name.

justmeee · 22/04/2017 17:22

I know a Peter who is 26 - not young I know but definitely a generation you younger than most! I know several David's in their early 20s.

Enidblyton1 · 22/04/2017 17:25

I find David a bit dull, but have always loved Peter. I only know one Peter under 25 - he is 15.

Summertime10 · 22/04/2017 19:02

I know a Peter who is 6 years old. There weren't any eyebrows raised by the choice of his name. It's established but doesn't have too many old fashioned connotations, I feel.

One of the great loves of my life is a Peter - he is 6. The most gorgeous child, and the only one I have come across under 60!

I like David well enough, but Peter is better.

feckingmarvellous · 22/04/2017 19:47

My DH is a Peter, I love it. Suits him so well. He's 31. I know a 1 year old called Peter also.

My dad is a David and I've always really loved it.

My son has a similar (Biblical, not particularly trendy) name. Can't go wrong with Biblical. I would assume that anyone calling a child Peter or David at the moment is a Christian (which I wouldn't with Noah because it's so trendy).

Newsand · 22/04/2017 20:36

I think Peter is it.:)

I personally prefer David (or Davis). But Peter is really nice :)

Topsyloulou · 22/04/2017 21:12

I know a Peter who is 3, it's lovely. The problem with David is that it will inevitably shortened to Dave.

SuperBeagle · 22/04/2017 21:14

David is much nicer, IMO.

Peter's fine but gets pronounced "peeda" where I live, which is awful and sounds low class. David is better.

MarieMorgan · 22/04/2017 21:24

Our 9 year old ds is called David, after his grandad. His older sisters both had names that were very popular so lovely to have one that is the only one in his school!

MarieMorgan · 22/04/2017 21:25

Also, I don't think it's inevitable that it will be shortened to Dave - my husband has a friend called David and he is never called Dave.

EmmaC78 · 22/04/2017 21:28

I like both but prefer Peter.

SuperBeagle · 22/04/2017 21:29

Yes not inevitable that he'd become Dave. We have two in the family and neither is Dave or Davy.

CPtart · 22/04/2017 21:48

David. I know one aged 22, known as Dave. Don't like Peter, the only one I know is 48 and called Pete.
In the same vein, prefer Christopher, Andrew, Anthony.

Nospringflower · 22/04/2017 22:10

I prefer David.

I know a 13 yo Peter and a 13 yo David.

Neither great IMO

feckingmarvellous · 22/04/2017 22:36

It's pretty inevitable that it becomes Dave IME. My dad hates Dave and yet is always called it.

And every Peter I know is Pete (apart from the 1 year old).

I prefer Pete to Dave. I also prefer the name meaning of Peter.

feckingmarvellous · 22/04/2017 22:37

Davy is much nicer than Dave, quite cute!

deluxetrolley · 22/04/2017 22:39

I know a baby David, but no Peter's under the age of 30!

I think you should consider if you prefer Dave or Pete given that's what they will probably be shortened to?

Dontrocktheboat · 22/04/2017 22:42

I prefer David. Both nice enough names and will be unusual now. I've always found Peter a bit wet, and possibly prone to lazy pronounciation.
