What do you think of the name Hemi? Is it pretty easy to spell/pronounce?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

A quick Google tells me this is a Maori name, so if you want to reference that culture, it would work.

To me, it means half, like hemiplegic, hemisphere, so I don't like it.

Makes me think of Born to Run 'Beyond the Palace hemi-powered drones scream down the boulevard'

But that's not necessarily a bad thing!

Missingthesea · 19/04/2017 15:19

It makes me think of hemidemisemiquaver Blush

Ktown · 19/04/2017 15:22

Yes I thought hemidemisemiquaver.
It also sounds like the heam- the prefix for some iron containing molecules.
Nothing weird, so if you like it then go for it.

Thatextrainch · 19/04/2017 15:22

I don't know how to pronounce it or spell it. HEMMY? Haymee? H'mee? H'MY?

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 19/04/2017 15:25

yes..hemidemisemi...blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

is it really a name or just a sound you like?

I'd presume it was an odd sort of nickname, from a toddler mispronunciation tbh

Rockaby · 19/04/2017 15:36

Could you confirm how it is pronounced please OP? I would guess hem, (as in a hem on a skirt), and then ee, so rhymes with Emmy, but maybe some people would think hee-mee or something else.

MyBootsAreMuddy · 19/04/2017 15:55

Hemi is the Maori form of James. It is pronounced Hem-ee. It's one of my brothers names (I am Maori).

ErrolTheDragon · 19/04/2017 16:05

Reminds me of Demi in the Little Women series, a joke on 'Demijohn'.

I wouldn't unless you're somewhere Maori names are familiar.

There was a rugby player called Hemi Taylor - yes it does rhyme with Emmy.
