We have a preference for longer "grown up" names that have some options for cuter shortenings (think Rosalind/Rosemary = Rosie). Also trying to avoid anything too popular so they aren't one of 4 Olivias, Amelias, Evies etc in their class.
So far have Alexandra, Elizabeth and Beatrice on the list.
Any other ideas?

I love every shortening of Margaret but DH can only think of Thatcher!

He loves Persephone but do you think it is a bit pretentious?

Love Penelope, Josephine (what could it shorten to? Not keen on Jo/Josie), Susannah.

daisypond · 17/04/2017 18:15

Josephine can be shorted to Jodie or Sephie.

nooka · 17/04/2017 18:26

If you don't like the traditional shortening of a long name you probably should avoid it. It's highly unlikely a Josephine won't get Jo/Josie at least at some point in her life. I'm not sure how you'd get Jodie, but another option is Posy.

NapQueen · 17/04/2017 18:28

Watching with interest as I also love names like this and am having a girl.

Interestingly I'm a Catherine but have never had my name shortened. I absolutely love my name and always enjoyed that there was only ever one of me in my school/uni group etc x
