Would he be mistaken for a girl his whole childhood? Yay or nay?

I wanted Jesse too ...but it got vetoed. I really like it. Not too quirky but you know there won't be 5 others in class with the same name.
We ended up with Joel - love that too

Sophronia · 14/04/2017 23:32

Love it! I don't think he'd be mistaken for a girl. Jesse for a boy (ranked #178) is more popular than Jessie for a girl (#245).

TalkingofMichaelAngel0 · 14/04/2017 23:36

Love it

Hoptastic53 · 14/04/2017 23:41

DP is unsure as he thinks of "don't be a big Jesse"!? and that he needs a more manly name among many sisters, but I love it.

I have a Jesse!

I do find a lot of people read it as Jess (when he gets called for appointments etc) and quite often people think he's a girl but it's no different to being called Ashley, Alex, Sam or any other unisex names.

I personally think the spelling gives the fact that he's male away but clearly not everyone does!

Hoptastic53 · 15/04/2017 00:37

Jess, really?! I'd have thought the spelling made it obvious too.

Fab.

Jooni · 15/04/2017 08:06

Love it!

I think my Scottish family would be a bit Hmm if we used it (apparently "jessie" as an insult is more used up there), but I think it's a beautiful soft name for a boy.

TreeTop7 · 15/04/2017 08:08

I like it. Reminds me of Jesse Owens.

The phrase Big Jessie isn't really used around here so it wouldn't be a problem for me.

ElizaDontlittle · 15/04/2017 08:09

I know one and I was pretty surprised - not Scottish/ in Scotland but the insult is well known I think. I'm sure the child grows in to it however and it's an awesome biblical name so it would fit comfortably into a Christian family/community.

ASDismynormality · 15/04/2017 08:10

I really love it but didn't use it b cause it gets used as an insult - shame as it's such a lovely name.

Nellooo · 15/04/2017 08:22

Nope. I'd always think a Jesse was a boy but a Jessie was a girl.

Only1scoop · 15/04/2017 08:34

Awful for a boy

SoloDance · 15/04/2017 08:36

Great name.

Marlboroandmalbec34 · 15/04/2017 08:57

We both loved it but couldn't get away from the idea of him been called "a big Jessie" we are in Yorkshire and it's a common insult amongst kids here

Mrsknackered · 15/04/2017 10:08

I love Jesse. I think it's very obviously a boys name and I weirdly don't even associate it with Jessie.

harderandharder2breathe · 15/04/2017 10:24

Jesse with that spelling is generally a boy, so should be less confusing than Alex, Sam, Ashley

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/04/2017 10:54

Sorry OP, big Jesse, where I come from.

Firsttimeandclueless · 15/04/2017 11:00

My brother is Jesse and I absolutely love the name. He suits it so well and he's never had a problem with it, never been teased about it etc.

sidonie1 · 16/04/2017 13:30

I had this vetoed three times round but LOVE it! Just had my fourth boy and got it in as a second name! Hooray! So glad as it's just too cool.

GastonsWife · 18/04/2017 14:46

I have loved this name my entire life ( inspired by Jesse from Free Willie) but OH hates it (we are instead having a female Jess). I think it a lovely name suitable for any avenue in life.

MrsCharlieD · 18/04/2017 19:33

Love it! It was on my list but sadly dh vetoed so we've agreed on River now. I think it's a really lovely name.

lisara79 · 18/04/2017 20:27

I love Jesse....

INeedNewShoes · 18/04/2017 20:51

My baby is due shortly and my hunch is that it's a boy. Jesse is my favourite boy's name, but I don't think I'm going to use it because I have exactly the same misgivings as mentioned here.

It's frustrating!

For me it's not helped by the fact that I know a few baby Jessicas who are called Jessie.
