Rockaby · 14/04/2017 09:06

Boy I think, because of Louis's Dad in Family Guy! I think it's equally ok for a girl though as it's traditionally a surname anyway. My granny was called a surname (her mum's maiden name). She was born in the twenties.

Rockaby · 14/04/2017 09:06

Lois's not Louis's!

ColourfulOrangex · 14/04/2017 09:08

I forgot about Lois's dad Rockaby Grin

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, Orange. Is there any grief counselling available to you?

I know you want to honour the memory of your DP or DH, but ask yourself this. If he had expressed a preference for the name Lilian, say, and the baby was a boy, would you still use the name?

NameChange30 · 14/04/2017 09:11

Sorry for your loss Flowers

Do you know if you're having a boy or a girl?

ColourfulOrangex · 14/04/2017 09:15

hardcoreladytype thank you, no but we had decided on Carter for a boy or girl as we saw it as a unisex name, the first time i heard it it was actually on a girl, it would be double barrelled (I know that is hated on here too) if was a boy would be Carter-James and girl would be Carter-Jean after my nan...NameChange30 it's a girl and thank you

MsJolly · 14/04/2017 09:17

I'd say it's unisex. There's a TV series called Carter, with a female lead of the same name

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 14/04/2017 09:20

Oh I'm so sorry, just read your update Flowers
Personally I would go for a more obvious girls names like it, Carla is one I suppose, or cara/Cora. But I think it's still unusual enough that it wouldn't be out of the way noticable to call a girl carter.

NameChange30 · 14/04/2017 09:45

Congratulations on your little girl Smile

I would use Jean as a middle name and just have Carter as a first name. Or did you have another middle name in mind?

ColourfulOrangex · 14/04/2017 09:51

Thank you namechange30 my son is very excited to be getting a sister :) I hadn't really given much thought to middle names so I might use Jean as that

ExcellentWorkThereMary · 14/04/2017 09:52

I would first think "unstoppable sex machine".
Then I would think boy.

NameChange30 · 14/04/2017 09:52

I have a Grandma called Jean too and she is lovely Smile And I gave DS a middle name after my Grandad who died a few years ago.

user1483387154 · 14/04/2017 09:53

boy or surname

ColourfulOrangex · 14/04/2017 09:56

Where does unstoppable sex machine come from?

OP posts:
PointlessUsername · 14/04/2017 09:56

I think both Names sound Lovely for either boy or girl.

NotTheBelleoftheBall · 14/04/2017 09:59

Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine is a uk band from the mid 90's - they had a few hits, but have quite a cult following even now.

They are one of my guilty pleasures.

zen1 · 14/04/2017 10:00

I can actually see a little girl being called Carter; I think it's quite unisex. Good luck with the birth OP and sorry for your loss of your DP.

MiniMaxi · 14/04/2017 10:21

Boy

MiniMaxi · 14/04/2017 10:24

Oh sorry just read more. Very sorry for your loss - and congratulations on your little girl.

I would assume boy but no reason it can't be for a girl - and I agree it's nice to use the name you and her father chose.

I prefer Carter Jean to Carter-Jean

Yes! The Only Living Boy in New Cross. Still love it....

ColourfulOrangex · 14/04/2017 10:31

Thank you all, ah I will have to have a Google about the band

Boy

thebakerwithboobs · 14/04/2017 11:24

Carter-Jean would allow her to choose, or potentially be CJ? I know a lovely little girl called Tyler which I would never have thought was a girl name but she really suits it 😊

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 14/04/2017 11:26

Very sorry to hear that you have lost your DP, take care.

MikeUniformMike · 14/04/2017 17:44

Use it as a middle name. Magna goes well with it.
