Thoughts on these? Early options at the moment as I don't know whether this is a boy or girl yet. I think I love them both.

Cassia nn Cassie if it needs one.
Nerissa nn Nessa or Neris or Issa.

Cassia was on our shortlist, I absolutely love it Grin

BounceBounceSplishSplash · 12/04/2017 16:35

I really like Cassia/Cassie. Not keen on Nerissa.

Pemba · 12/04/2017 16:46

Both nice.

TempsPerdu · 12/04/2017 16:52

Cassia edges it for me, although I was at school with a lovely Nerissa (known as 'Rissy'). Both pretty names, but I find Cassia a bit more distinctive as Nerissa sounds quite similar to Melissa/Marissa etc.

ChippieFishieHorshie · 12/04/2017 17:07

Both are really nice. But I think I prefer Cassia.

NappingRabbit · 12/04/2017 17:14

Cassia is lovely. Nessa maher m

NappingRabbit · 12/04/2017 17:15

Oops. Nessa reminds me of Gavin and Stacey and I'm not keen on Nerissa.

user1471547428 · 12/04/2017 17:21

I didn't know about the Gavin and Stacey connection! But depending on the character hopefully it won't be an issue in a few years time.

Nerissa is far too close to Niesseria (think bug that causes gonorrhoea).

Cassia is better: everyone loves cinnamon!

Pemba · 12/04/2017 17:53

Re: Nerissa - I think that medical term is quite obscure, unless you work in the area. Most people will never of heard of it. Everything sounds like something else if you really strain to look for it. For instance one of the most popular names around now - Amelia - is also a medical term I understand (limbless?). That doesn't seem to have stopped its popularity.

It's from Shakespeare and it's lovely. Cassia is very nice too, though.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/04/2017 17:53

Ooh, I love them both !
Cassia is the one I would choose though.

reuset · 12/04/2017 17:57

Cassia

Cassia is lovely. Nerissa is ok but not as nice. The nn Nessa will forever be Gavin and Stacey to me I won't lie to you Grin

MerryMarigold · 12/04/2017 18:15

How about Marissa/ Marisa?

Sophronia · 12/04/2017 18:21

Cassia is lovely

HalfCarrot · 12/04/2017 18:22

Around here Cassia would be assumed to be spelt Kasia unless you pronounced it carefully. Lovely name.

nerissahere · 12/04/2017 18:23

Oooh! I have name changed for this, but my name is Nerissa. I have never met another one in real life and am often complimented on my name. I am so excited to see it suggested I felt the need to post!

Congratulations whatever you choose.

greeeen · 12/04/2017 19:04

I prefer Nerissa but don't like nessa as it just makes me think of gavin and Stacy.

MaryWortleyMontagu · 12/04/2017 19:05

Is cassia pronounced cash-uh or cass-ee-uh?

MerryMarigold · 12/04/2017 19:07

Kasia is pronounced Cash-uh.

I would assume Cassia to be Cass-ee-uh, but wouldn't be sure if it was CASS-ee-uh, or Cass-EE-uh (Italiano stylee!)

FartnissEverbeans · 12/04/2017 19:30

Cassia definitely. It's one of my favourites Smile

user1471547428 · 12/04/2017 19:57

Ooh how exciting, a real life Nerissa. Very glad to hear you like it!
I would pronounce Cassia CAS ee a.
I actually quite like Cassian for a boy too.

Sorry neither I'd say

PinkBuffalo · 12/04/2017 20:12

I absolutely love the name Nerissa, but I gave a family member called that so may be biased!
