Inspiring people from history for DS's name?

It's a sort of family tradition to have a middle name chosen after an inspiring person from history (recent or ancient). Baby DS has had a bit of a rocky start so we want to give him a middle name that conjures up triumph over adversity.

The family precedent is to have names of adventurers and explorers but I'm open to other suggestions.

All inspiration gratefully received!

This may sound mean but isn't intended as such. These names can't be too inspiring if they haven't actuality inspired YOU. Needing to google them is not a very inspiring story to tell your child about how you chose their inspiring name. Better someone who you actually admire, like a NICU nurse or doctor as you mentioned his rocky start.

In the categoey you mention, my preferences would probably be Frederick Douglass (could use either his first or surname) or Roger Casement, both mainly for their roles in the slave abolotionist movement. I think it more inspiring for historical role models to make the world a better place rather than Victorian gentlemen explorers, however hardy and daring.

Congrats and best wishes to your little fighter.

I know what you mean sycamore but having used my favourite inspirational figure for DS1 I am a bit lacking in ideas - I would definitely only choose a name if I had read up on the individual and the story resonated with me. I've always really liked having a famous 'inspirational' namesake myself but I have never really thought whether that person had a particular significance for my parents.

There is a wonderful paediatrician whose name I am seriously considering but it doesn't scan well with our surname!

John (Newton and others...)
Blaise (Pascal)
Henri (Guisan)
Nelson (Mandela)
Jesus (I understand some may hate it...)

For personal reasons I'd probably go fo Thomas, Winston, John or Pierre...
