Boy's names... I thought they were sorted. (I was wrong. Let's hope the girl's names stay sorted...)

Jonathan
Anton
Antonin (I prefer Antonin, tbh)
Julius
Cedric
Maximilan
Gregory

Queen

St. Mungos is the wizarding hospital in Harry Potter!

Idk. I don't think it's wrong to use the name. But I personally couldn't.

Then again. DD is currently called Chippie/Chip (which is also a slur, according to google. Although luckily a less common one).
She has a lovely, classical name. And that's what happens... I blame DH's family. They all have the weirdest nicknames. (I'm not kidding btw. I choose to look at it as a lovely English custom... Wink)

My top choice for my Ds was Keir but DH vetoed it and we ended up with a Ben instead. No regrets, but I still like Keir (not Keiran!).

I LOVE KEIR! Wanted this for my first child but it doesn't go with his surname unfortunately

How could I forget about st mungos on HP hahaha that's what I was thinking of but couldn't place it!

Btw, I'm not really after "different".

It's just that names with kind of "classical" (greek, Hebrew or Latin) roots tend to be popular in several European languages. Which is pretty useful, seeing as my family is strewn all over the world and my fist language isn't English...

I really hate the original list (sorry!) but like Corvus, Cormac, Magnus and Gregor.

Hector is lovely

Keir is very good. Solid.

I definitely have an image or your DH's family as one of those eccentric English families who call each other things like Tipsy and Floss and Boo and have dogs and an old boy sitting in a chair with a dressing gown and hat on...

If you wanted to Scottishify Magnus, it could be Manus. But Magnus is better sounding.

That's fine :) I really like Magnus and Hector. Plus, Maggie and Heckie are adorable nicknames.

But can somebody please explain why Gregor seems to be so well liked and Gregory isn't? It's basically the same name, right? Like Henry and Henrick?

Gregory sounds wet. Apart from Gregory Peck.

Gregor sounds strong...handsome...

Either way, he'd be Greg. Think that's gone out of fashion but it's solid.

There's no old boy (there are men. But no boys yet. FIL is really hoping that this one will be a boy. DH's sisters only have girls...) But.. yeah, I guess eccentric is a word. I use "weird". In a very loving and fond way.
I love DH, but - God love him - he is weird-

Manus sounds like hand, right? I think I prefer Magnus. Magnus is cool :) Maggie or nutty is lovely :)

DD's boyfriend is called Gregor, he shudders if you call him Gregory.

He is strong and handsome (at least DD thinks so).

OP 'old boy' means eccentric old man!!

Are you middle European? These nicknames with -y on the end seem that way?

Maggie is a girl's name so I'd avoid that.

The rather eccentric couple on Gogglebox call each other Nutty!

Yes, I'm middle European, good catch ;)

I don't know what Tv show that is, but why not?
Hm.... True, Maggie is a girl's name. Mags? Nuttie? Mussie? We'll find something ;) (scratch that. I'll find something imo lovely and DH's family will call the little one something like Chip/pie... Wink )

ghost
True, but it is a bit popular, right? I think Magnus is better. (Dear Lord, I am a bit of a fussy cow, am I not? From my original list to Anthony, Magnus, Gregory and Jonathan)

I have an Anton. Works very well, easy to pronounce and remember, not too long and so far noone has called him Ant. Also quite unusual

Do people think it's Anthony or?

Ketchup. Sorry, but thay sounds very murder-ish. But thank you so much for taking the time to comment :)

If we had had a DS2 he would have been Magnus so that gets my vote.
