Boy's names... I thought they were sorted. (I was wrong. Let's hope the girl's names stay sorted...)

Jonathan
Anton
Antonin (I prefer Antonin, tbh)
Julius
Cedric
Maximilan
Gregory

Anthony is nice. Tony for short.

Love Maximillian and it can be shortened to Maxi or Max or Maxim!!

Based on your last few posts (which seem like you've gone off of Anton) I'm moving my vote to Hector. It's really not overly posh these days, but cool and classic.
I think I've gone off Anton but now like Anthony (nn Tony)? Yes, I'm confusing myself. And DH is basically just staying away from me and my notepad and ruler (to scratch off names....)

I'm not a fan of John, sorry. But it's a cute nn?

Maxime is on our girl's names list. It's nice... But it's very feminine imo. Thank you :)

Mmmm. Well. Erm. Interesting selection there.... Max would be the only one I'd consider. Maximilian on the birth certificate and handing out a scalding or whispering sweet things when he's falling to sleep in your arms maybe. If you were a friend and you asked me to my face I'd say they all sound lovely and you should choose whatever you like. I'd never be so rude to say otherwise. But as you have asked for honesty and my comment will be pretty insignificant for you then, there you go ^^

Hm... Well. "Interesting" is pretty much what MIL said when she head DD's name. Wasn't a selection but her actual name (registered and everything) Wink

Max... Hm. I've kind of scratched it off.

May I take advantage of your honesty and ask what you think of Anthony?

I like Anthony :-) Tony is nice nn but I do picture a middle-age snooker player when I hear it.

Interesting.... Tony, Tone, Ant..... I guess you don't run the risk of other children running up to you at the park when you call him over for a packet of raisins! One of mine is called Felix and I know that is not to lots of people's tastes. But he was a twin (both boys - the other boy starts with an F so that's a whole other thread about whether it's twee or Kardashian-esque!) and DH and I had to work quite a way down each of our lists of names until we reached a compromise lol. Go with what you like, ultimately. Gregory and Anthony just sound particularly dated to me. But truly, each to his own 😘

Just seen some other comments. My husband wanted Hector and one of mine has the middle name John (but only because it's a family name)

Snooker player?
I keep imagining a cigarillo (...) smoking Italian man with a gold ring. But he was a lovely chap, one of the best friends of my dear grandmother...
Plus, I thought a child may like the Iron man association? (I maybe wrong...)

Keep Btw, I really like Felix. If there weren't this many....

I follow gymnastics, and the English Championships are on today. Some of the boys competing are:

Lazarus
Samurai
Myron
Zion
Remell
Jasper
And lots of boys called Louis and Anton, along with a million Jakes

Mungo and Magnus are rather fancy names in certain Scottish sectors of society??

Report
ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 07/04/2017 22:07

Queen , there was quite a lot wrong with the 80s list :it's very twee and Scottish but your list makes me a bit sad if that's Scotland as it feels so un-Scottish..

I omitted all the Ronnies, Donnies and Kennys I knew, assuming you wouldn't go for those OP!

I love Lazarus. Oh wow... What a beautiful name. But maybe a bit too out there.

ILike I don't know anything about Scottish sectors of society (well, DH went to university in Scotland. But I love him to bits, but he's about as socially competent as a piece of wood....)
But I do love Magnus. Magnus is good and sensible, right?

Mungo is not a name in ANY sectors of Scotland Blush you can't call a child that?!

dotdotdotmustdash · 07/04/2017 22:09

Magnus is a fabulous name. My most favourite boss was called Magnus, an absolute gentleman. It's classy and elegant.

Queensparkles · 07/04/2017 22:11

ilikebeanswithketchup you are right, majority are more Celtic/Irish, there isn't much choice with Scottish names really, they are either really dated or over used! Although I love Harris!

Queen
Don't worry, we won't have a Mungo. It sounds like an awful slur for a person with trisonomy 21 in my own language... I just couldn't bring myself to call this out in a park (or anywhere).
I'm sure it's a nice name. But for me the connotations are pretty awful.

Honest Queen, don't know where you are but St Kentigern is also called Mungo and is outside the art gallery in Glasgow and Mungo Park was an explorer. I went to primary school with two Mungos... one's dad was an ageing rocker and the other a lecturer... maybe it's a hipster Glasgow thing...

Magnus is Icelandic but there are a few in Scotland via the Highlands I guess.

Probably best all round to avoid Mungo Grin

Report
Queensparkles · 07/04/2017 22:17

I've heard of a st mungos (can't remember if it is a hosp or school tbh) but as a child's name it immediately makes me think of 'mongo' which is a horrible name and makes me so angry when ppl use it! It must be a very hipster thing to get away with a name like that, or someone 'from money'

I think so Queen I'm trying to think of rather trendy / unusual names as I think OP doesn't want Bob or Iain
