Why on earth would you give your son a non-name (and a ridiculous one at that)

It's not a non-name. It's an actual name. Most common as a surname, but still an actual name. And it's not pronounced like vegan.

WillowTreeBranch · 07/04/2017 15:55

Northern I'm guessing that also counts for names like Ciaran then, yes? Where their means are "little dark one"???

OP posts:
Loyly · 07/04/2017 15:55

I really dislike it, sorry.

Floggingmolly · 07/04/2017 15:58

It'd be pronounced Be-ugan, wouldn't it? Beag, meaning small.

Neverknowing · 07/04/2017 16:01

If you're Irish and live in Ireland it sounds nice! It's pronounced sort of big-earn yes? It sounds good in an Irish accent but I think English people would say it weird and it wouldnt sound great Smile

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 07/04/2017 16:14

Oh, no, sorry I really don't like it. Bogan, beagle and bogey all spring to mind.
Not to mention, Bea is 100% a girl's name, sorry!!

GeekGoddess · 07/04/2017 16:20

If you love it, use it op. I would pay attention to people's reactions on here though. Irl folk will be kinder, but I would hate to know they are likely thinking negative things about my beautiful baby's name. Flowers

Xmasbaby11 · 07/04/2017 16:22

No I don't like it, sorry.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/04/2017 16:28

I don't like it sorry.
How about Beatrice nn Bea.

Sgtmajormummy · 07/04/2017 16:33

I immediately thought of the Night at the Museum 2.
Brandon? Brendan? ...Brundun.

EssentialHummus · 07/04/2017 16:34

No from me.

Also too close to 'bogan' which is a type of Australian chav (sorry to sound judgemental there, not sure how else to explain).

This was my immediate association too.

LovingLola · 07/04/2017 16:37

Beagan means 'a little' in Irish. 'Beagan aran' means 'a little bread'.

ZilphasHatpin · 07/04/2017 16:37

If you're Irish and live in Ireland it sounds nice! It's pronounced sort of big-earn yes? no! Grin

It sounds good in an Irish accent

Irish accents, like English accents, can be very different.

Whatslovegottodo · 07/04/2017 16:39

I know a young Braegan, I'm not a massive fan of his name but you may like it?

Flowerydems · 07/04/2017 16:44

Flowerydems · 07/04/2017 16:45

Cross post just saw you know that. I think if I heard it I'd find it strange but I know folk called brogan and can't work out why their folks called them
Shoes

Flowerydems · 07/04/2017 16:46

Sorry I'm Scottish Gaelic should have said

Sgtmajormummy · 07/04/2017 16:49

My misty memories of Irish tell me beagán would be pronounced /bjugo:n/ . Or "byugawn" in ordinary spelling.
Any takers?

ShuttyTown · 07/04/2017 16:51

Goodness. The baby name threads have lost their mind today.

LavenderDoll · 07/04/2017 17:02

How many rude uneducated replies on here Hmm
It is a name. You might not like it but it is a name.
Fine not to like a name but to be rude to the OP seriously some people on here are rude for rudes sake.

For what it's worth OP I'm neutral with the name but if you like it go for it.

I'm Irish.
You don't need to write Gaelic when you are talking about the language spoken in Ireland. We speak English and we also speak Irish.

I am 36, soon to be 37, and I have never heard of this name. If it has no fada accent on it then it is meaningless anyway.

notangelinajolie · 07/04/2017 17:13

Have you made this one up?
It sounds like a breed of dog any rhymes with beer can.
Just no.
