Oh sorry, for a boy. Well, don't call him Bea then. You could call him B or Bee but it'll sound like Bea which will be in 'A Boy Named Sue' territory.

GoodYarns · 07/04/2017 15:39

No don't like it.

Watch out Beagans about GrinI'm cracking up!!

KoalaDownUnder · 07/04/2017 15:42

I think Beagan has just taken out the position previously held by Balonz.

Heratnumber7 · 07/04/2017 15:42

According to the website I just found, it's a surname not a first name.

BreatheDeep · 07/04/2017 15:43

Its a surname. Also, how is it pronounced? Is it Bee-gan or Beh-gan or Bay-gan? Seeing it written makes me think of Fagan from Oliver Twist for some reason.

All of the above means I'm not a fan.

TheElephantofSurprise · 07/04/2017 15:43

Oh, no. I've heard it as a surname. Don't do it.

BearHunting · 07/04/2017 15:44

How is it pronounced?

Bea is a name I associate with girls.

Flowersinyourhair · 07/04/2017 15:44

There are so many actual names (I have a book of 1000). Why do people have to start making up stupid pretendy ones to blight their poor unsuspecting babies with???

ApocalypseNowt · 07/04/2017 15:44

If someone told me their DC was called Beagan I'd assume

a) they liked The Walking Dead and,
b) they had a cold

No.

Northernlurker · 07/04/2017 15:45

You absolutely cannot use Bea for a boy. It's cruel and unusual.

Are you about to give birth btw? If so put the baby book down till he's here and then decide. Pre-birth hormones do weird things.

MaudGonneMad · 07/04/2017 15:45

If it's Irish, is it Beagán? Which means a little bit (byug-awn). In any case, it's not a proper name.

WillowTreeBranch · 07/04/2017 15:46

flowers why can people not educate themselves?

Yes, it's known as a surname? A bit like Hunter, Jackson, Parker, etc.

OP posts:
Northernlurker · 07/04/2017 15:48

Well Parker is a terrible first name imo. The others you're listing are far more well known,. This doesn't even have a nice meaning.

liquidrevolution · 07/04/2017 15:48

Brogan would be better.

Floggingmolly · 07/04/2017 15:49

It actually is an Irish name; but the fact that no one's ever heard of it tells you how utterly shite it is.
Why do you suspect it's not popular, op?

MitzyLeFrouf · 07/04/2017 15:50

Even Gobnait is more well known. And no one has ever accused Gobnait of being a nice name.

WillowTreeBranch · 07/04/2017 15:50

Little one is quite a nice meaning... Especially for a preemie, but never mind. I get the gist.

OP posts:
ZilphasHatpin · 07/04/2017 15:50

Its irish and means small or small one. It's not pleasant pronounced in my Ulster dialect (bug-an) really a surname tbh.

ZilphasHatpin · 07/04/2017 15:50

Xpost!

ShotsFired · 07/04/2017 15:50

@MitzyLeFrouf Ooof. Shots are being fired, as da kidz say.

You called? Grin

Rockaby · 07/04/2017 15:51

I know someone with this as a surname. I'm not mad about it a short a first name. It's a bit like Regan, which I also dislike.

TheHiphopopotamus · 07/04/2017 15:51

Why on earth would you give your son a non-name (and a ridiculous one at that) and then shorten it to a girls name?

You will be forever correcting people and explaining that 'no, it's not Vegan, it's Beagan. Yes, Bea. Yes, he's a boy.' Hmm

Why? Why would you do that?

Rockaby · 07/04/2017 15:51

*as a first name

Seriously, my phone's autocorrect hates me.

GuinessPunch · 07/04/2017 15:53

Are your names boris and megan?

Northernlurker · 07/04/2017 15:53

Little one is not a nice meaning when he's 26 and 6ft tall and 20 stone playing hooker for the Welsh rugby team. Names that are cute for babies are never good as adults
