Carys or Cerys?

I'm assuming they're said as Kah-riss and Keh-riss, or have I got that completely wrong? DP was Welsh (passed away during beginning of pregnancy) and unfortunately, I don't know much about Welsh names :( first name will be Violet.

Thank you :)

Cerys

RedastheRose · 20/03/2017 00:04

So sorry to hear of your loss. Yes that is how they are pronounced and both are lovely names. Both are Welsh and mean loved. Violet Cerys sounds better imho.

TinselTwins · 20/03/2017 00:04

Cerys all the way! nice name
Carys is like "oh don't use that mug that's Carys's special mug! she'll ban you from the Christmas party if you move it"

DramaAlpaca · 20/03/2017 00:07

With Violet I'd choose Cerys.

pineapplebush · 20/03/2017 00:07

Yes, I love the meaning! Thank you :) seems like Cerys is the winner then! Violet Cerys is okay, isn't it?

Both lovely but Cerys has the edge for me, both how it sounds and because of the brilliant Cerys Matthews.

Violet Cerys is a great name.

I'm so sorry for your loss Flowers

lisara79 · 20/03/2017 00:41

Welsh here Smile I'd go Cerys... especially with Violet x

GreatFuckability · 20/03/2017 02:37

I love both, but I have a Cerys, so I'm slightly biased in favour of that. I'm sorry for your loss and I think its a beautiful tribute to your DP x Violet Cerys is very pretty!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 20/03/2017 09:48

Violet Cerys sounds nicer.

Cerys

Sorry for your loss Flowers

glitterglitters · 20/03/2017 09:57

We are probably going to call our new dd Cerys. Always pronounced it Ker-ris and it's an adapted version of the original Welsh Carys.

glitterglitters · 20/03/2017 09:58

Sorry for your loss as well and what a lovely way to honour your DP's memory ❤

Pencilvester · 20/03/2017 10:01

They are both pronounced the same, aren't they?

I'm very sorry for your loss.

GreatFuckability · 20/03/2017 10:31

no they aren't pencil.....the first syllable is Keh like Kestral in Cerys, and is Kah like Karen in Carys.

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 20/03/2017 11:04

Another Welsh poster here saying go with Cerys.

And I love Violet too.

And I'm very sorry for your loss OP. Flowers

Carys is lovely.

Kazzawazza69 · 21/03/2017 22:25

Sorry for your loss. Violet Cerys is beautiful. My niece is half Welsh and called Violet - it sounds lovely in the Welsh accent.

harderandharder2breathe · 21/03/2017 22:53

Sorry for your loss Flowers

I prefer Carys individually but Cerys goes better with violet imo (and my preference my just be that i know an unpleasant Cerys!)

Alisvolatpropiis · 22/03/2017 18:30

As a first name, I prefer Carys but Violet Cerys flows really well so I'd pick Cerys in this instance.

Very sorry for your loss Flowers

Violetcharlotte · 22/03/2017 18:40
