This isn't for a baby, but for a curiosity.

For me:

Boy - Emrys

Girl - Bronwyn

Meredith/Meredydd/Maredudd is a boy's name and is pronounced Mer-ED-ith (th as in 'the' not 'thin').

I generally don't like non-Welsh speakers using Welsh names, although easy to pronounce ones like Aled, Glyn or Bryn are reasonably Ok. Although I really like the names Jiaxin and Roisin, my dds have easy to pronounce English names.

Rhianwen isn't a combination of Rhiannon and Anwen, it's Rhian with the suffix wen. I suppose Anon could be a combination of Anwen and Non.

missmoz · 19/03/2017 14:10

Ok I was wrong, not a literal combination but a name that sounds like both Rhiannon and Anwen if the OP was looking for suggestions.

MikeUniformMike · 19/03/2017 14:31

It's pretty. I don't like Anwen at all but I like Rhian and Rhiannon. I also like Non (rhymes with Don). I also like Dona (a Welsh saint, and a Daphne du Maurier name) but as it's pronounced Donna, it was ruled it out.

Love Rhodri. There's an estate agent on homes under the hammer with this name- and every time he's on I think- that's the name for my next child! Love it.

Slight tangent but can someone teach me how to pronounce Angarhad as I work with someone with that name (not closely) but don't know how it's pronounced....

oklumberjack · 20/03/2017 08:02

Ilove, it would be
Ang (like Hang without the H)
Har (this doesn't rhyme with car but more like Hard without the H)
Rad (like Dad)

iloveuihateu · 20/03/2017 08:51

Thanks ok!

I hate pronouncing people's names incorrectly!

oklumberjack · 20/03/2017 08:52

Actually that Har explanation doesn't work too well. It kind of has a Arrrr inflection like a Pirate would do (but not too much). I'm not explaining it very well!

More like the Ha sound if you were saying Ha ha ha!

MikeUniformMike · 21/03/2017 21:11

Ang (no hard g)
Har (like Harry without the y)
Ad (like in advert)

Elphame · 23/03/2017 00:11

Iestyn or Geraint

Angharad or Tesni

CeriBerry · 23/03/2017 00:31

Marlais, Macsen, Osian, Owain, Ilan, Aneurin and Iago for boys

Cerys, Alys, Aneira, Nel, Alaw, Olwen and Awel for girls

SuperBeagle · 25/03/2017 07:06

I love Arwen for a girl.

GinAndOnIt · 25/03/2017 07:22

I'm loving this thread! I always wanted to give my children Welsh names, but in reality, DP is English, we live in England now, and we haven't had children!

I'm living my life through this thread instead Grin

GinAndOnIt · 25/03/2017 07:22

(Heulwen is one of my favourites)
