Hi ladies,

We are expecting our DD2 and we love the name Reyna (we don't have a middle name yet) :) I was wondering how would you spell it to get it pronounced: rAI-nuh (like here - . I think Reyna and Rayna are the closest, Reina can probably be ree-na. What is your preference?
I know it is not a common name and probably not to everyone's taste and that's ok with me, but in case you can think of any reason for a kid to be teased because of this name, please share :)

Thanks a million!

Rayna

GrumpySausage · 17/03/2017 14:16

Rayna. I love this name and hoping to use it if I have a DD and would spell it Rayna.

Sophronia · 17/03/2017 16:22

Reina

Pencilvester · 17/03/2017 16:29

I prefer Reyna (probably because I live near Raynes Park)

NotYoda · 17/03/2017 16:31

What about Raina?

Of your suggestions, Reyna

NotYoda · 17/03/2017 16:32

I don't think there's a possibility of teasing (IMO children don't tease children about their names) but there's little doubt she'll have to spell it i to everyone. It is a lovely name though

DramaAlpaca · 17/03/2017 16:33

I like Reyna best.

ZombieApocalips · 17/03/2017 16:46

Can't think of a teasing reason. All kids like Rain.
Rayna looks best to me. Rey is a fab, strong female character in Star Wars and Reyna might make people think of that but it's a positive association and a bit of a stretch as it's a different name.

1horatio · 17/03/2017 17:09

Reyna, I suppose... They're all rather nice, aren't they? :)

I have a friend called Reya, so to me personally it looks as if somebody misspelled her name (happens rather often).

But it's a really nice name :)!!

DaffyDildo · 17/03/2017 18:25

Reyna/Reina and Rayna are pronounced different to me. I would say REE-na for Reina and Reyna.

Stellmum · 17/03/2017 19:49

Thanks everyone!
It seems that it depends on the location. In US Reyna is the most common spelling and outside is either Rayna (EN speaking countries) or Reina (Spanish speaking countries as this is the correct spelling for "queen"). Personally I will read Raina as "rye-nah", that's why I didn't include it.

When you hear it, do you make an association with Ray (as ray of light) or with the Spanish "queen"? I like both Confused

Ha my only association is with the TV programme Nashville. Main character is Rayna Jaymes.

PiggyPlumPie · 17/03/2017 19:52

My American SIL is Rayna.

justwanttoweeinpeace · 17/03/2017 19:53

Obscure to some but Reina is the famous Istanbul club where the terrorist attack took place at NYE.

I'd be tempted to pick one of the other spellings.

user1489781128 · 17/03/2017 20:11

Hi, I personally prefer Reyna

Popkids · 17/03/2017 20:13

Reina mainly because I love the character in Quantico!

buttercup54321 · 17/03/2017 21:50

Raina

Joeybee · 18/03/2017 23:56

Raina, think it is so lovely when it's spelt that way.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/03/2017 00:50

Rayna.
Or I quite like Nots suggestion Raina.

NotYoda · 19/03/2017 07:54

The more i hear this in my head now, the more it sounds like the surname Raynor, or the German boys' name Rainer

Stellmum · 22/03/2017 10:50

Thank you so much!
Votes so far are:

:) :) :)
Not an obvious winner but I can get that as a sign that I won't be too wrong with any spelling. Still have some time to decide.

Do you have any suggestions for a second name. I quite like Lucia, but my husband thinks the whole name will sound very Italian and since we have no Italian roots it might not be a good choice Grin. My other favorite is Jane.

Thanks! ;)

crapfatbanana · 22/03/2017 12:37

I don't have a preference on the spelling but I don't think Jane works as a middle name as it's too rhymey.

Are you pronouncing Lucia 'Loo-see-a' or 'Loo-shuh'? It sounds slightly better with three syllables if used with Reyna, in my opinion.

Reyna Jean?

Stellmum · 22/03/2017 16:25

I will pronounce Lucia "Loo-see-ya".

Jean is nice, I also like Joanne.

I would pronounce Reina as Rye-Na (looks German).

I like Rayna best of your options.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 22/03/2017 16:28

And Lucia as Loo-Chee-A
