I have a son named Oscar.

I really love Maddie. Thoughts?

I really like Maddalena, although I might have gone for one d. I also like Magda on those lines, I haven't heard that used for a long time, Magdalena being the longer version.

ChampionOnion · 14/03/2017 23:12

@Foureyesarebetterthantwo I'm pretty sure it's Italian and spelt with 2!

WanderingTrolley1 · 14/03/2017 23:22

Bad connotations for me.

Sophronia · 14/03/2017 23:30

I like Madeleine but not Maddie

Gummibears · 15/03/2017 07:47

Magdalena is beautiful and Magda much prettier than Maddie imo.

SuperBeagle · 15/03/2017 08:28

Love Madeleine.

Not as fussed on Maddie, but I think it'd be inevitable that she'd end up as a Maddie.

And yes, to the PP, Maddalena is the correct Italian spelling. Smile

I'm not that keen on Maddie but there is nothing wrong with it. Aren't more Maddies short for Madison (seems very popular around here) than Madeleine?

Foreverhopeful22 · 15/03/2017 08:55

I do like it but as lots have said I associate it with one little girl and it makes me sad. Sorry

OvariesForgotHerPassword · 15/03/2017 09:04

I'm a Maddy (short for Madison but known pretty exclusively as Maddy or Mads) and shy of a few older kids in school running up to me and shouting "I've found Maddy!" in the few weeks after she went missing (I was 12 when she went missing I think) no one has ever mentioned any McCann connotations. I've only ever had compliments on it :) obviously I'm very biased but I think it's a good name Wink

Purplebluebird · 15/03/2017 09:15

I like it :)

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 15/03/2017 09:18

Really don't like it.

Seems to be a really tragic name... (And not "just" because of that one association. There's been a case in Germany as well... And for personaly reasons)

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 15/03/2017 09:18

I do like Maddalena :)

purpleprickle · 15/03/2017 09:25

I have a Madeleine.

She calls herself Maddie, so most people call her that. I use both names, depending on situation/mood etc.

I love the name, and has no sad connotations for me, but I have had a few idiots who ask whether she was named after Madeleine McCann.

Yes, because a normal person would name their child after a missing child they have no connection to. Hmm

Doesn't bother me though.

LittleIda · 15/03/2017 09:30

The Mad sound isn't my cup of tea

anxious2017 · 15/03/2017 09:33

I know lots of dogs called Maddie. Seems very in at the moment in the show world.

Pencilvester · 15/03/2017 09:38

I am not able to muster up any passion for or against Maddie.

user1489585433 · 15/03/2017 13:55

I really like it Smile

Rockaby · 15/03/2017 15:40

I like it! It's cute, but Madeleine on the BC gives her options.

plutohasfeelingstoo · 15/03/2017 17:39

I like it and Madeleine is lovely too

lavenderandrose · 15/03/2017 17:44

I agree that it's bizarre formit to be 'forever tainted.'

All girls who disappeared and some met horrible ends.

All just lovely girls' names, and lovely girls, by all accounts.
