I only really like Susannah.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/03/2017 22:23

Carina - very pretty, has a nice meaning
Susanna/h - dislike because of the song
Arielle - not a fan
Ariella - a bit too prissy
Millicent - too old fashioned
Helena - Helen-a or Helayna? I like both pronunciations
Eliana - pretty
Amynta - not a fan
Serena - I like it
Louisa - no, but only because of Mr Bingly's snooty sister. Grin
Annabella - I like it
Annabelle - Prefer it with the spelling "Annabel"
Erika - I like it
Antonia - love it, but DH said no.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 11/03/2017 22:23

Is anyone else hearing Arielle in Sebastian's Jamaican accent?

I like Serena and Eliana best.

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 11/03/2017 22:23

okfine

May I ask which ones you've never heard of?

A toyota?

I don't really like cars, tbh. They're boring. So, I guess Carina is out.

Very nice, you lovely mumsnetters managed to make me discard two names (Carina and Ariella). That's awesome! :)

MsGameandWatch · 11/03/2017 22:25

I don't like any of them except Louisa.

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 11/03/2017 22:29

If you could be super mean and judgemental about the names you don't like... That would be so so awesome. I do admittedly feel rather bad for asking.

But I just like all of them. And a child can't have this many names Blush

GinSwigmore · 11/03/2017 22:31

Helena, Serena and Luisa are all lovely.

Aurélia is a beautiful alternative.

Cosmicglitterpug · 11/03/2017 22:32

I like Amynta, sounds strong. Not fussed on the others. Arielle/Ariella/Eliana lot are bluergh.

Loyly · 11/03/2017 22:35

Carina - lovely
Susanna/h - awful
Arielle - awful
Arielle - awful
Millicent - I want to like it but no
Helena - lovely
Eliana - awful
Amynta - awful
Serena - ok
Louisa - ok
Annabella - awful
Annabelle - awful
Erika - ok
Antonia - awful

I only like Carina and Helena from your list.

Okfine · 11/03/2017 22:36

Never heard of Arielle or Ariella or Eliana or Amynta. And I am a teacher who has taught thousands of children over the years.

ArseyTussle · 11/03/2017 22:36

OK, here we go:
Carina - again, a Toyota
Susanna/h - Lovely with an h. I also like Suzy and Suki as NNs
Arielle - frilly and inconsequential
Ariella - areola
Millicent - doughty and unattractive
Helena - elegant but boring
Eliana - don't like it, but don't like names like Anya and Tanya either
Amynta - sounds horsey
Serena - Sloaney name
Louisa - very nice
Annabella - frilly and bratty
Annabelle - nicer than the above
Erika - prefer it with a C
Antonia - hate it, but I also dislike Ramona and Thomasina

So I'd go Susannah, particularly if you happen to have a one syllable surname.

joannegrady90 · 11/03/2017 22:38

They're all shit

GooseFriend · 11/03/2017 22:38

Millicent and amynta - no

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 11/03/2017 22:39

okfine

Interesting :)!!

Arielle... Well, I kind of assumed everybody would know the name because of the little mermaid Ariel? ;)

Amynta was mainly used for poetry and stuff, I think...

Eliana is a name that seems reasonably popular to me, so Idk what to say, sorry Blush

OP posts:
HLBug · 11/03/2017 22:39

Carina - nice but would spell with a 'k'
Susanna/h - lovely, need the 'h'
Arielle - little mermaid
Ariella - meh
Millicent - bossy, old fashioned, wears a hat pin
Helena - lovely
Eliana - wouldn't know how to pronounce
Amynta - wouldn't know how to pronounce
Serena - lovely (but instantly think tennis)
Louisa - beautiful
Annabella - nice but prefer Annabel
Annabelle - lovely but would spell as above
Erika - nice but would spell with 'c' rather than 'k'
Antonia - nice enough

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 11/03/2017 22:41

So I'd go Susannah, particularly if you happen to have a one syllable surname.

I wish... No, it's really very long. And the pronounciation is so counterintuitive. Seriously, the surname nearly made me reconsider marrying DH ;) (ok, I'm kidding. But the surname is pretty awful...)

HmmmHashtag · 11/03/2017 22:43

As previous posters have said... Helena pronounced Hel-AY-na and Luisa without the O Smile
I do actually like Millicent! Although I guess there are probably a lot of Millie/Milly's around?

liquidrevolution · 11/03/2017 22:44

I dont really like any of them. Either too cutsey or conjouring up images of a 50 something on horseback (I live in a posh part of Berkshire).

Serena I would change to Seren. Louisa is ok but will inevitably be shorted to Lou which I hate. I like Susie rather than Susannah.

Helena pronounced Hel-AY-na by DH and pronounced whatever by me... (he-le-nuh).

I don't think having many Millies around is bad, is it? DD's nickname is Chip/Chippy. So, if DC2 is lucky enough to get stuck with Millie I'd be honestly surprised.

And no, DD's name isn't Chippina or anything. And we don't even eat chips...

OP posts:
liquidrevolution · 11/03/2017 22:47

I wish... No, it's really very long.

Which is why I chose a simple name for DD (actually she also has two simple middle names as well). I have a 5 syllable French surname.

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 11/03/2017 22:49

The name of DD is already 3 syllables. And she has two middle names...

So, I guess the opportunity of chosing simply names was missed.

But then again, my name is really long as well. It's a bit of a family thing, I guess. In my and DH's family, weirdly enough.

OP posts:
Brollsdolls · 11/03/2017 22:49

Favourite is Eliana

hahahaIdontgetit · 11/03/2017 22:51

Would you tell us what DD1 is called?
