Opinions on Robin (for a little girl)? Can we get away with spelling it like that? Instead of Robyn? I know Robyn is seen as more of the female version but I really prefer Robin!

One of my faves but I do prefer Robyn and would assume that's how she spells it

CleverQuacks · 11/03/2017 17:41

I have a little boy named Robin, I think if you spell it like that you will forever be correcting people.

KoalaDownUnder · 11/03/2017 17:42

It is loved on mumsnet but I really don't like it. Don't like the sounds in it, and 'Rob' is a masculine nickname.

MyNewBearTotoro · 11/03/2017 17:48

I would spell it Robyn for a girl but Robin is technically a unisex name - in 2014 12% of babies called Robin were girls so it's not so out there!

ToastVacuum · 11/03/2017 18:34

Yes, I think you can spell it Robin for a girl.

Jooni · 11/03/2017 18:35

I like Robin, dislike the Robyn spelling intensely though so I say go for it! I do prefer it for a boy and would assume boy if I read it with this spelling, but it's very nice for a girl too.

BaymaxismyHero · 11/03/2017 19:34

I really like Robyn for a girl. Prefer the Y spelling though. Wish I could have had it but her name would have been along the lines of sam samson so a definite no no.

reuset · 11/03/2017 19:41

Robyn spelling does seem to be the spelling most used for girls. But I dislike the 'y' also, agreeing with a pp. It's just ok, I prefer it for a boy, as a nick name for Robert.

Though I must say I had no idea Robyn was in the top 100!

Sophronia · 11/03/2017 19:42

I'm not keen, it feels a bit 80s. I agree it's loved on mumsnet though!

PolarBearGoingSomewhere · 11/03/2017 19:43

I think the Y spelling makes life much easier for a girl.

Rockaby · 11/03/2017 19:46

I like it Smile

Jonsnowsghost · 11/03/2017 19:51

I have the Y spelling and even though that is the 'girls' version people often think I'm a man before they meet me! So I don't think it matters either way!

Izzyathome · 11/03/2017 20:13

Not for me but it's popular on here so go for it if you like it - I think the Robin spelling is 100% fine for a girl. I think I prefer it.

mum2be2boys · 11/03/2017 20:51

I really like the name - I know two in real life who are both lovely girls so that probably helps! Both spell it Robyn though.
I think the Robin spelling is fine for a girl, but it is more commonly used for a boy so you/she would probably need to correct people about the spelling.

ChippieBeanAndHorro · 11/03/2017 20:52

It's fine for a girl. Just say it's like the bird ;)?

NotYoda · 11/03/2017 20:53

I prefer Robyn, but I know a female Robin

Lovely name

I wonder whether it's used much for boys now
