I like Christopher and Nicholas, Thomas is ok too. DH doesn't like nickname for Nicholas and I don't really like Chris.... Tom is ok....we had also thought of Elliott, Simon and Charles but I just don't love any of them aaagh!

Elliott works well internationally but Charles and Simon are pronounced very differently in other languages.

Arthur Edward Patrick Hector Andrew Laurence

If your surname starts with J don't automatically dismiss J names, for example James Jones sounds great!

Gregory

Was supposed to be Gregor but autocorrected for me. I quite like both.

Most alexanders we know seem to have brothers called William.

Matthew, Lucas, Daniel.

What about Kit short for Christopher?

Your surname must start with J (as you don't want BJ understandably or J/GJ sound. )

I agree with a PP that you shouldn't discount J names. JJ are good initials.

You want simple, classic names to go with Alexander and work internationally.

Nic(h)olas, T(h)omas, Matt-hew/ieu, Jack/Jacques?

averythinline · 11/03/2017 17:09

Maximilian
Montegue
Jasper could work and then nn could be JJ !

SallyGinnamon · 11/03/2017 17:11

You've got Alexander the Great. Why not Frederick (Freddie) or Peter the Great?

(I've got a Catherine the Great!).

sotiredbutworthit · 11/03/2017 17:34

I have an Alexander and a Samuel.

barleyteddy · 11/03/2017 18:39

Thanks for all the suggestions. I really don't like alliteration with our surname so sticking to original plan of avoiding b/j/many g names. Hadn't thought of Ivan or Laurence, I like William but hate Willie, Billy etc....I know I'm being a fuss pot....

I haven't come across a William called Willy or Billy for a long time. I know a few who have shortened it simply to Will, which is nice enough. Alternatively Liam is another shortening of William (although has become a name in its own right too)

We have an Alexander. We too wanted a classic sounding international name.

Our shortlist if DC2 had been a boy was:

Hector William
Patrick William
David William
Samuel James

We had William chosen as a middle name because we liked the name, but didn't want to risk it being shortened to Willie. We didn't think William worked with Samuel, though.
