Ada

Is it too similar to the all-too-popular Ava?

Decided that my original far out choice is better for a middle name but we still want something that means something to us.

DH is a computer programmer and I am an admirer of women who give zero fucks so we've come across Ada Lovelace.

I quite like it but DH is less sure as he is not really a of a fan of "old fashioned" names (he vetoed Alice and Iris).

Thoughts?

I think Ada is a nice alternative to Ava, and actually I think it's a nicer name.
I love 'old fashioned' names though.
I like how Ada sounds both feminine and strong, and an Ada could be a professional, a singer, a business woman - anything, I think Ada is a lovely name that can grow with a person.
Though I think if your DH isn't keen, and isn't likely to be persuaded around, then maybe try and find another name which you both like (easier said than done, I know!) as you said you ant the name to be meaningful to you both.

MiniMaxi · 06/03/2017 10:01

I like it! Can be short for Adelaide or Adeline I think if you want a longer version

Rockaby · 06/03/2017 10:03

I think it's lovely and I only know one who must be about 5yo now.

It would fall in to the 'vintage' name category for me though, so if your DH doesn't like those sorts of names I can see why he might not like this.

How about Aphra or Alba?

Rockaby · 06/03/2017 10:04

Love mini's suggestions too though.

reallybadidea · 06/03/2017 10:07

I like it a lot. Much more than Ava. I immediately thought of Ada Lovelace too Smile

NameChange30 · 06/03/2017 10:09

LOVE IT. Love the way it sounds. Love the connection to Ada Lovelace.

NameChange30 · 06/03/2017 10:09

PS It's about a million times nicer than Iris and it's cooler than Alice.

ToastVacuum · 06/03/2017 11:00

Ada is a great name, and a nice change from Ava.

LemonBreeland · 06/03/2017 11:02

Dd has a friend called Ada. I think of it as quite a strong nsme and totally different to Ava.

I prefer Ada.

ThursdayLastWeek · 06/03/2017 11:39

I LOVE Ada, was on my list for DS2 Smile

I love that 'between wars' feel, and over the character Ada Shelby in Peaky Blinders.

Mrsknackered · 06/03/2017 11:40

Have always loved it, since I was a teenager and read Bleak House.
Ada Lovelace is a very cool namesake.

WhenLoveAndCakeCollide · 06/03/2017 12:14

I love, love, love Ada. Oozes vintage charm.

Sistafromanuthamista · 06/03/2017 12:21

I like it. I know a 2 year old Ada and a baby Adeline who is increasingly being called Ada. It's much nicer than Alice and Iris imo.

If your DP isn't keen on vintage names would he consider Ida but pronounced European way as Ee-dah

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 06/03/2017 12:28

How about Ida ?

Sophronia · 06/03/2017 12:41

It was my great-gran's name, actually she hated it and went by one of her middle names! I like it though.

Jooni · 06/03/2017 13:39

I know an 18-month-old Ada, I think it's a nice, sweet, strong name. It's not too close to Ava.

HeyRoly · 06/03/2017 13:46

I have one, and although there's one person of our aquaintance who insists on calling her Ava (you know when you fail to correct someone and kick yourself later? Grin) being mistaken for an Ava isn't a common occurrence.

She suits her name perfectly. She's strong and opinionated and definitely gives zero fucks Wink She could also write her name at the age of three, because it's nice and simple!

Bear2014 · 06/03/2017 15:55

Love Ada. We've just found out we're having a boy but if it was a girl, it would have been either Adeline or Adelaide, nn Ada.

reuset · 06/03/2017 17:58

Nice name. I prefer it over Ava

Iloveantiques · 06/03/2017 18:00

We know an Ada. Beautiful name.

pilates · 06/03/2017 18:11

I like it very much

coxsorangepippin · 06/03/2017 18:14

Love it. Also like Ida, as in Ida B Wells another amazing giver of zero Fuchs

coxsorangepippin · 06/03/2017 18:15

Autocorrect!
