If you had a long awaited baby girl, against all the odds, what would you call her?

Hypothetical day dreaming thread as currently awaiting some potentially nasty test results for baby so looking for a welcome distraction to help keep calm/positive and think about other things.

We don't know the sex yet, but if a girl what could you call her that would be a special, but non tacky, name? Something that has a special meaning or other? It's been a very long road to get to this point and she would be our only child.

Am thinking Hallelujah is a bit much...? Grin (Although you could shorten it to Lu/Lou or Halle for everyday?!) We really like this but it has not been well received by others. Sad

Hope was another thought I had, but wondered is it a bit plain? Would it cause too much confusion in conversation every time someone used the word hope? I generally like traditional names e.g. Beatrice, Amelia, Harriet and etc

Not a fan of Joy or Faith either (sorry, hope not to offend anyone)

Victoire, what an excellent choice! I like it more than Victoria although I do love the masculine version (for a boy).

Vivienne is a lovely name and it means alive.

Evangeline - bringer of good news
Isadora - gift of Isis (the fertility goddess, not the terrorists Grin)
Theodora/Dorothea/Dorothy - gift of God
Adora - adored
Beatrice - bringer of joy
Gloria - glory

BikeRunSki · 01/03/2017 20:28

I know a Hope, named for similar reasons (although DD is called Hope after the valley in Derbyshire).

Zoe - means "Life"(Greek)
Joy
Samantha - "God has heard" (Hebrew)
Beats, Benita - blessed (Latin)
Felicity - happiness, good luck, fortune
Amy - beloved (French origin)
Alisa - great joy
Abigail - my father is joyful

Blinkyblink · 01/03/2017 20:30

My girl is called Juliet.

Practically every time I say her name
i think to myself "damn, I love that name"

Helbelle75 · 01/03/2017 20:34

Hope

Zoidberg · 01/03/2017 20:37

Celine which is imo beautiful and uncommon, and means heavenly.
Penelope - as above and because you have waited a long time.

KatharinaRosalie · 01/03/2017 20:38

Celeste - means heavenly

BikeRunSki · 01/03/2017 20:52

Patience

Pigeonpost · 01/03/2017 20:55

Nancy. My granny's name

WankersHacksandThieves · 01/03/2017 21:19

Carys - I think it comes from the Welsh caru, meaning love.

SavageBeauty73 · 01/03/2017 21:21

Skye

mathanxiety · 01/03/2017 21:22

Angharad, meaning 'beloved' or 'much loved'.

HeyMicky · 01/03/2017 21:27

I have a Josephine - may God add

AbernathysFringe · 01/03/2017 23:14

I might put Patience in as a second name, not first as might be shortened to Patty.

Thanks everyone, some lovely suggestions here!

I didn't know that about Marnie ... in fact if I'm honest I didn't realise that was a name in itself and always assumed it was a nickname for Hermione! (Which I also like btw but not sure about it with the Potter reference!)

I always joked too about the Ivy-F for a girl but DH doesn't like Ivy, or Iris ... both of which I do! Annoying when they have their own opinions and veto things isn't it? Wink

Luna (another Potter reference lol!) and Ellen are lovely too.

We're waiting on the results of the Harmony test following a high risk test result for genetic abnormalities. The risk is high, but odds still in our favour so trying to stay positive. One big bonus at least is that we will find out the sex early as the Harmony test apparently looks at baby's DNA so hopefully, we will have extra time to help us to come up with a fitting name for our hopefully perfectly healthy baby.

Thank you all very much too for your good wishes xx

Hope all goes well for you OP xx

IlPorcupinoNilSodomyEst · 02/03/2017 19:45

Good luck OP, let us know how you get on, best wishes for you and your family.

Crunchymum · 02/03/2017 21:54

I thought Beatrice means "blesses" (still very apt)

May I ask if you don't yet know the sex, why you aren't asking for boys names too? Confused

MommaGee · 02/03/2017 23:09

needtobe I have a baby with wonky chromosomes. I really really hope you get good results but if you don't, it isn't the end of hope. You'd be welcome to pm me.

Is pick Eden Rose, a character in my husbands book who lives a long life and is a very cool woman

llangennith · 02/03/2017 23:17

Enfys (pronounced En-viss and Welsh for Rainbow)

needtobeanonforabit · 03/03/2017 02:11

MommaGee thank you, I really appreciate that. Xx

Crunchymum because we already have a perfect (to us) boys name picked out, first and middle names both after much loved family members. There aren't however any significant or special girls names though that we want to commemorate (is that the right word?!). Sorry thought I had already stated that earlier in the post but see I didn't ... Brain elsewhere at the mo Blush

Just thought I would update this thread to say that we had the most wonderful news today - Harmony test came back as 99.99% certainty of no abnormalities (as close as they will say to negative) 🎉 We've decided we're happy with that and aren't going to risk baby with an amnio/CVS to confirm as they seem pretty sure.

They also told us that we are having a baby GIRL! 💜❤️💜

Thank you to everyone for their support, it has meant a great deal to me xx
