If you had a long awaited baby girl, against all the odds, what would you call her?

Hypothetical day dreaming thread as currently awaiting some potentially nasty test results for baby so looking for a welcome distraction to help keep calm/positive and think about other things.

We don't know the sex yet, but if a girl what could you call her that would be a special, but non tacky, name? Something that has a special meaning or other? It's been a very long road to get to this point and she would be our only child.

Am thinking Hallelujah is a bit much...? Grin (Although you could shorten it to Lu/Lou or Halle for everyday?!) We really like this but it has not been well received by others. Sad

Hope was another thought I had, but wondered is it a bit plain? Would it cause too much confusion in conversation every time someone used the word hope? I generally like traditional names e.g. Beatrice, Amelia, Harriet and etc

Not a fan of Joy or Faith either (sorry, hope not to offend anyone)

As you don't know the sex yet do you have a boys name in mind?
Hope everything's ok with your baby

ItsBarnezyBitch · 01/03/2017 19:18

Joy

I've always loved it.

GruffaloPants · 01/03/2017 19:21

Hope and Joy are both lovely.

BigApple11 · 01/03/2017 19:21

We have Hope as one of our long awaited daughter's names. She has a quirky first name. we also didn't want to use Joy or Faith (one of those is my middle name) but we loved Hope as it's so symbolic of what we went through, as in we never gave up the hope of having her.

BigApple11 · 01/03/2017 19:22

*middle names that should have read. She has two middle names

Scribblegirl · 01/03/2017 19:25

Iris? Goddess of the rainbow Smile something beautiful after a lot of rain.

Everything crossed for you.

Pinkwilllowtree · 01/03/2017 19:27

Not sure if it's relatable to you but I like this one: Halia [halia] as a girls' name is pronounced ha-LEE-ah. It is of Hawaiian origin, and the meaning of Halia is "remembrance of a loved one". I hope all goes well for you.

Marnie - 'rejoice'

datingbarb · 01/03/2017 19:29

Seren it's Means star

It's a beautiful name and the 2 little girls I know with it are pretty, tiny delicate little things

LobsterQuadrille · 01/03/2017 19:31

Miranda means admirable and wonderful. It's my favourite (and hence DD's) girl's name.

5BlueHydrangea · 01/03/2017 19:31

Lucy or Lucia - means 'Light'
I met a Lucy-Grace today which I really like.

Ellieboolou27 · 01/03/2017 19:34

I called mine Ellen Smile

5BlueHydrangea · 01/03/2017 19:35

I love Seren too! Like the Welsh connection too as dd used to live there.

Ummmmgogo · 01/03/2017 19:35

I love hallelujah! I'm also a fan of blessing, godspower, miracle, praisethelord, and godsgift. Godspower is more often a boys name but it works in this situation I think x

Nan0second · 01/03/2017 19:37

I called mine Harriet!
I do like all of your names though :)

Baconbinge · 01/03/2017 19:37

Jessica Alba named her daughter Honor. I had never heard of it as a name before and i think it's very pretty and feminine, also not very common.

Idratherhaveacupoftea · 01/03/2017 19:46

You must have heard of Honor Blackman, the actress.

SuperBeagle · 01/03/2017 19:47

I've always liked Lucy (and all of its diminutives/variations) because it means "light".

TheWeeBabySeamus1 · 01/03/2017 19:47

I'm a Joy (by name - not by nature) and I hate it. I think it's an old lady name, and having resting bitch face people always think it's hilarious to to ask why I'm not Joyful or something equally irritating.

I love the name Luna and really like the name Seren suggested above.

kimnews · 01/03/2017 19:49

I know someone who had an IVF baby girl, and called her Ivy 'middle name beginning with F)'.

Meffy · 01/03/2017 19:51

We called ours Cleo ... "to praise or acclaim "

She's wonderful!

ABCFamily · 01/03/2017 20:02

Eliana - My God has answered.

pinkhousesarebest · 01/03/2017 20:05

My friend called her much awaited ds Victoire.

pinkhousesarebest · 01/03/2017 20:06

Dd of course.

Sierra259 · 01/03/2017 20:10

I met a baby Talia recently - it means "precious dew from God/heaven"
