Advice please

Hi I'm just after some advice on how to spell the name my husband and I like.

No nasty comments please, we want a name that isnt hugely common.

I've loved the name Liscia for a girl since I met an old lady who had the name and came into where I worked years ago. But I'm not sure if it should be spelt Lissia, Licia, Lisia or Liscia.

We don't want people to get confused thinking it is pronounced liz ia or Lee she. Instead it is meant to be like Alyssia or Alicia but without the A at the beginning.

Thank you :)

Sorry but are you sure she wasn't called Lucia?

firsttimemum15 · 18/02/2017 20:45

The way your wrote it I said it Lis Ee Ah rather that Leecha as in Alicia.

Hope that helps and makes sense

Having said that I live on a road with a silent S i thought the word was commonly known but 99% of people say it wrong

2017parenttobe · 18/02/2017 20:51

Hi it was definitely Liscia, she spelt it for me and pronounced it 'liss ee ah'

You can spell it however you want to.
A friend called her daughter Lissia pronounced the way you say above.

KlingybunFistelvase · 18/02/2017 21:05

From the pronunciation you've described in your last post, I'd have guessed it was spelt Lissia.

2017parenttobe · 18/02/2017 21:09

Thanks :) I just wasn't sure what the best spelling would be to show how it was supposed to be pronounced, without looking like I have made it up.

I know traditional is Alicia, but we love it without the A

I prefer Liscia as a spelling and it's the closest to how I would assume it to be spelt.

firsttimemum15 · 18/02/2017 21:37

I think you misunderstood me the way i read it was liss ee ah the way you say

I know Alicia is a different name and i would say that the same but with an A.

NuffSaidSam · 18/02/2017 21:41

I think Lissia is most likely to be pronounced correctly.

Liscia could be 'Lish-uh'.

Cia does sometimes say 'shuh' as in the alternative pronunciation of Alicia (Al-ee-sha).

Licia could be 'Lick-ee-uh' or 'Lie-see-uh'.

Lisia could be 'Lie-zee-uh' or 'Liz-ee-uh'.

Lissia could only really be 'Liss-eh-uh' I think.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 18/02/2017 21:44

I like the spelling, Lyssia.

SuperBeagle · 18/02/2017 21:53

Lissia is the spelling that makes the most sense to me.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/02/2017 22:27

Lissea
Lisya
Lissia
Lyssia

RaspberryBeret34 · 18/02/2017 22:30

I like Lyssia best and think it would get pronounced 99% right 👍. You'd just have to cope with "how do you spell that?"! It's very pretty though.

Sophronia · 18/02/2017 22:42

Lissia or Lyssia

2017parenttobe · 18/02/2017 22:42

Firsttimemum15 I was referring to the other post about Lucia :)

Thanks everyone, I think I'm swaying towards Lissia because I think it's more obvious than Liscia for pronunciation. My name is Irish and I've spent my whole life with people pronouncing it wrong!

Like Lyssia but that spelling is a type of moth :o

Was the old lady Italian? I just looked up Liscia and most of the top results give Liscia as an Italian place name.

2017parenttobe · 18/02/2017 23:06

No, English! Maybe her family might've been

I think there could be doubts for a lot of people over the middle two being pronounced the way you want it. I had it pronounced that same way from the first time I saw the name. I think Lissia is the clearest regarding the pronounciation you want.

Aya2 · 19/02/2017 22:29

Love it..who cares if people have doubts people never know how to pronounce my name i just tell them and say thank you when they compliment it
