Hypothetical as I'm expecting a boy this time but heard this name on the radio yesterday and I rather like it.

Have at it MNers! Wink

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I've never heard it before. Has an Eastern European/Russian ring to it, I think. It's oooook. Not that keen.

peppatax · 17/02/2017 12:04

Sounds like a brand of cheap household appliance

Wishiwasmoiradingle2017 · 17/02/2017 12:04

Thought it said Zika. As in the virus. . Sorry.

StealthPolarBear · 17/02/2017 12:09

Too similar to zika

sycamore54321 · 17/02/2017 12:09

Zika virus was my first thought too. It reads slightly strangely? like a fairly unusual combination of sounds in English, it takes me a few gos to pronounce it. My opinion only of course but it doesn't appear very 'name-y' to me.

user1483387154 · 17/02/2017 12:12

Another one who associates it with the Zika virus, and agree it sounds like a cleaning product otherwise

JoanofNark17 · 17/02/2017 12:19

It's the name of a pharmaceutical company.

As a girls name, its short for Franziska. Similar is Ziske, which is yiddish.

Sistafromanuthamista · 17/02/2017 12:22

I'd assume it's short for Francisca/Franziska

Jooni · 17/02/2017 12:30

Oof, OK, thank you everyone. Had a feeling it wouldn't be liked but the Zika thing hadn't occurred to me so thanks for making that connection. I don't know, there's still something about it... Guess it's lucky I'm having a boy! Grin

Ziska sounds too close to Piska which is the Russian slang word for vagina Confused

PonyPals · 17/02/2017 13:09

Oh and Siska which means breast

FartnissEverbeans · 17/02/2017 20:30

So boobs and fanny rhyme in Russian? You learn something new every day.

My first thought was that it's pretty but then people said the Zika thing and now it's all I can see

manicinsomniac · 17/02/2017 20:38

It sounds Polish or something to me.

I think it's pretty.

And it sounds nothing at all like Zika??

SuperBeagle · 17/02/2017 20:40

Zika here too.

Zosia is nice though.

Zhabr · 18/02/2017 21:04

It is definitely not Russian, sounds Jewish to me. I imagine a very old Jewish woman...Closest Russian name will be Zinka, which rhymes with "basket" in Russian.

2014newme · 18/02/2017 21:07

Zika virus
