I can't decide between the two names. I'm also really struggling to come up with a middle name for Rose. Any suggestions?

Saoirse Maria or Rose ? Rose Maria makes me think of the sauce that goes with prawns Confused

Rose unless you are Irish.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 13/02/2017 16:04

Rose

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 13/02/2017 16:06

Are you Irish? If not go for Rose.

lalaland1985 · 13/02/2017 16:06

DH has irish roots but we are both Scottish

Sorry cross post. I do like Saoirse for your Irish ancestry. Quite often posters aren't aware of the meaning and history that goes with it.
Rose is classic though.

What would work as a middle name for Rose though? It's so popular as a middle name but not so much as a first!

I love both!

For Rose, you would need a 3 or 4 syllable middle I think, for it to flow nicely.
So...

Rose Gabrielle
Rose Juniper
Rose Emilia
Rose Annabel
Rose Isabella
Rose Aurelia
Rose Elizabeth
etc

:)

Saoirse unless you're from Normandy.

Are you from Normandy? If not go for Saoirse.

Hmm
lalaland1985 · 13/02/2017 16:46

Definitely not from Normandy Smile

Rose Gabrielle/a is lovely!

Saoirse is gorgeous, and would fit in well with your Irish family connections. The 'sh' sound in it gives it a nice soft sound. Rose is beautiful too, but I think Saoirse has the edge.

Roisin is a lovely Irish name too, has the 'rose' meaning and also the softer 'sh' sound.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/02/2017 18:29

Rose.

harderandharder2breathe · 13/02/2017 18:49

Love Saoirse

MrsNuckyThompson · 13/02/2017 20:49

We have Rose on our list and I love both names. Things to think about:

Do you like the inevitably 'Rosie' - personally I don't and so would be worried about using Rose!

With Saoirse - can you be bothered constantly telling people to spell or pronounce it?

RedLemonade · 13/02/2017 20:58

I was going to suggest Roisín too- similar to Rose but with a similar softness to Saoirse.

SmilingButClueless · 13/02/2017 21:01

I love Saoirse, but as PPs have said, you will be continually correcting the spelling and pronunciation.

How about Sorcha as an alternative? Sounds vaguely similar but phonetically easier.

In terms of middle names for Rose:

Rose Madeleine
Rose Amelia
Rose Amandine
Rose Ursula

lalaland1985 · 13/02/2017 22:53

The only thing that does put me off Saoirse is having to spell it all the time. I would hope that the people around my child would just get used to it.

I'm not keen on sorcha. I'm not too sure why!

I think the choices are now either Saoirse Maria or Rose Gabrielle.

Saoirse is a beautiful name.

Nospringflower · 13/02/2017 23:16

I think Saoirse is lovely. Not keen on Rose at all.

Sophronia · 13/02/2017 23:54

Rose Jennifer

After all this worrying I bet it's a boy! Grin

Saoirse is lovely.

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 14/02/2017 11:45

My daughter has an obscure Irish name and we have to spell it all the time - but the way I saw it is that there are very few names that you won't HAVE to spell at one stage or another ... many of them have different spellings anyway, i.e. Ann versus Anne etc. So that part of it didn't turn me off!

reuset · 14/02/2017 11:56

Rose, though both fine

lalaland1985 · 14/02/2017 12:31

That is a really good point Hammers. I've said to a few people that im thinking of Saoirse.. I've had a few funny looks and responses of 'is that a name'? I'd imagine people won't be so rude after the baby is born! I've stopped ever mentioning names to people!

OP posts:
MiddleClassProblem · 14/02/2017 12:33

I'd go Saoirse Rose
