DP's and I's first baby together. WWYD WRT the surname?

OP posts:

I'd rather call my child White-knight than not share a surname with them. And I think it's quite cool, actually.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/02/2017 18:50

What does your DP think? If he likes his name too, maybe you'll have to toss for it.

BenefitsQuestions · 02/02/2017 18:50

I think give your surname but have your DPS name as a middle name.

merrymouse · 02/02/2017 18:51

Use one as a middle name.

KlingybunFistelvase · 02/02/2017 19:00

Thinking about it objectively though, I actually reckon I'd think it was a cool surname if I met anyone called White-Knight.

Maybe you should just do it op.

Kelsey28 · 02/02/2017 19:01

I'm just using his name because our surnames end with er and it just doesn't sound good and overall I think his name is a bit nicer than mine

MakeItStopNeville · 02/02/2017 19:02

I quite like White-Knight!

eyespydreams · 07/02/2017 21:09

I love white knight and totally get that you want to keep your name involved. Depends where you are in the country (i.e. North London: go for your life but only if the first name is eg hepzibah or Achilles)

reuset · 08/02/2017 00:51

Grin You can do whatever you want, obviously, but I really think you should be looking at an alternative. It made me laugh, though. It would sound terribly naff.

Isn't it also some well known, budget brand of large electrical goods, White Knight. Why yes it is www.whiteknightrange.co.uk/

Yes, wight is a ghost as pp has said

reuset · 08/02/2017 00:55

He could use your surname if you feel so strongly. Ask, and discuss it with your partner.

MouseClogs · 08/02/2017 04:35

It's used as a term of abuse fairly widely, so I think best avoided. Shame, because it doesn't sound bad, but yeah..: an insult adored by misogynists the world over these days.

KlingybunFistelvase · 08/02/2017 07:34

I had to google the ghost connection to Wight. I only associate it with the Isle of Wight. And anyway, Spectre is a surname, like Harvey Spector from Suits. I didn't bat an eyelid when I heard that.

KlingybunFistelvase · 08/02/2017 07:35

But anyway it's sort of irrelevant as OP has said she doesn't really want a portmanteau.

playmobilpeacock · 08/02/2017 07:38

I think White Knight is a brilliant name.

BikeRunSki · 08/02/2017 07:40

I know Wright-Pratts and Green-Grays. You can double barrel anything!

clarrylove · 08/02/2017 07:42

No, you can't. White Knight is a tumble drier!!

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 08/02/2017 07:43

I also think White Knight is a brilliant name! I would definitely go for it.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 08/02/2017 07:44

And it's like anything, you / your child / everyone around you will say it enough and get used to it.

Hippychickster · 08/02/2017 07:45

I love White Knight!!!! I'm a teacher and awesome fab surnames - that is definitely one!

Hippychickster · 08/02/2017 07:46

Awesome = see some

ChilliMum · 08/02/2017 07:55

I love it what an awesome surname.

We have names that can't be double barrelled. I dont mind them having dhs name but I really regret not giving them my name as another middle name.

I would totally go for White Knight for the whole family it's very cool but no hyphen then if dc feels conspicuous as they get older they can just use knight but still have the full name.

reuset · 08/02/2017 11:35

I had to google the ghost connection to Wight

Really? Have you not even read that great classic Lord of the Rings? Barrow wights... They're ghosts/spirits/undead, especially more lately, as I think a previous poster touched upon.

reuset · 08/02/2017 11:38

It's used as a term of abuse fairly widely, so I think best avoided. Shame, because it doesn't sound bad, but yeah..: an insult adored by misogynists the world over these days.

It is indeed. The budget tumble dryers and electrical appliances, as have been mentioned Grin also make it amusing.

The 'aww it sounds nice, White-Knight, hun' you cannot reason with, however Grin

reuset · 08/02/2017 11:41

I know Wright-Pratts and Green-Grays. You can double barrel anything!

You can, but whether you should is quite another matter. Wright-Pratts! What were they thinking Grin

Ilovecaindingle · 08/02/2017 11:48

I changed my surname to dh first name. . Ds has that as his surname double barrelled with dh surname. So ds surname is dh full name!!
