Lynn for our son's middle name?

What do you think? We will only be having one child. It was my mum's name. It's unisex, but obviously known as a female name. First name will be Tobias (Toby).

Reddies, whilst I think the sentiment is very lovely, I just think of Lynn as wholly, a feminine name.
Might I suggest Glynn.

I don't think it is unisex sorry. Never met a bloke called Lynn. It's a nice sentiment but do you really need to give your son a girls' name in order to remember her?

Lindsay is a Scottish boys name, Lynn written like that looks very feminine, I would go with Lin?

What about her maiden name as a middle name? Might that be an option? (Now you're going to say it's Jane or Piper or something, aren't you!)

Lynn is a surname too, so in theory it should be fine, but people are funny about giving boys traditionally female names.

Could you find a first name you like that's starts with L? Did your mum have any middle names that you could use the male version of? Your mum's maiden name/surname as middle name?

Traditionally it's male, before the 20th century, it was mainly used for boys. I'm not saying it should be treated as a unisex name, but it isn't just a female name.

Lin is the male version.I'd probably go lindsay or her maiden name? Or did she have a favourite boy's name? My dm loved Glynn actually!

I knew a male Lyn (just one N). Think it's Welsh. IIRC he got stick for it as a child.

It's a man's name in south Wales. I don't think it's as common to use is as a boy's name elsewhere in the UK.

I agree with you Reddies, sorry, my wording was wrong. It was a boys' name. But now it's very much for girls and people are funny about giving girls' names to boys. See also: Vivian, Kelly, Shirley... even Aubrey has headed in that direction in the US.

Sorry :( It's a lovely name, for a boy too, but as a middle name I would think it would most probably embarrass him as a child and he'd not want to tell anyone.

I'd find another connection to her name that you could use, if you can come up with something.

Lynn originates from the work Lake - is there a link to your mother with a lake at all. Else your mums maiden name/ middle name. Really lovely sentiment though

Lin sounds like a Chinese female to me.

Lynn really is a very feminine name. The last thing you want is him to hate his/your mums name. I wouldn't chance it.

There was a Welsh male long jumper named Lynn Davies a few years back. I think it's ok actually, but i am 50!
