Lynn for our son's middle name?

What do you think? We will only be having one child. It was my mum's name. It's unisex, but obviously known as a female name. First name will be Tobias (Toby).

Tobias Lynn?

Will it be okay?

I like it :)

TalkingofMichaelAngel0 · 31/01/2017 22:03

I love flynn.

Chinnygirl · 31/01/2017 22:04

It sounds very female. I wouldn't do it. He has to live with it.

Abetes · 31/01/2017 22:05

No. Don't do it.

therootoftheroot · 31/01/2017 22:08

Lin is a boys name

Like tam lin

Chatelherault · 31/01/2017 22:38

I don't like it and wouldn't use it, but Lynn Davies was an athlete - are you Welsh at all?

GreatScot8 · 31/01/2017 22:38

As a middle name, I think it's fine. Middle names are rarely used and most people won't know what his middle name is anyway. I haven't used mine formally (and it's a perfectly "normal" name) since I was old enough to realise I could leave it off forms etc.

Tobias Lynn is lovely.

user1483387154 · 31/01/2017 22:41

Nope. Glynn or Flynn fair enough but not Lynn

MyWineTime · 31/01/2017 22:46

Definitely not!
People will take the piss for his whole life.
Go with Flynn

CocoLoco87 · 31/01/2017 23:00

I know an Irish bloke called Lynn but I'd go with Flynn. The sentiment is still there.

Linford? Could be another option.
Lincoln
Lindall
Lindley

CocoLoco87 · 31/01/2017 23:01

Or you could spell those with a 'y' instead of 'i' to be more like your mums name

Kahli · 31/01/2017 23:05

You obviously have put a lot of thought into this and Im sure you will make the right decision for your son.
If I could be allowed to offer one little piece of advice ....
Just think of the Johnny Cash song about a boy named Sue :)

Sophronia · 01/02/2017 01:00

I'd go with an alternative like

Tobias Lin
Tobias Lindsay
Tobias Glyn
Tobias Flynn

Sophronia · 01/02/2017 01:01

Or Tobias Linden / Lyndon

NamaNush · 01/02/2017 07:44

He'll get the piss taken out of him for his whole life

Really?? Can you imagine a guy in his 20s explaining his middle name is Lynn after his gm and someone taking the piss?

Some people really need to open their minds. Can't believe the negative comments here. It's a lovely sentiment and it's for a middle not first name.

Ikeameatballs · 01/02/2017 07:48

I don't think any of my DS's friends even know his middle name which always makes me a bit sad as it's the same as my beloved grandfathers.

I would use it.

TheNaze73 · 01/02/2017 07:52

Lynn is a Welsh boys name

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/02/2017 07:55

Nama yes I can absolutely imagine s guy in his 20's having the piss taken out of him because he was named after his grandmother! Why give your beloved child a name he always feels embarrassed about.

NamaNush · 01/02/2017 07:58

I know plenty of people with unconventional names (including me) and no one ever takes the piss.

therootoftheroot · 01/02/2017 07:59

this place is unbelievable-you can't give a boy lynn as a m,iddle name but you can call your daughter fucking james?? really?

slightlyglitterbrained · 01/02/2017 08:03

Lyn is a male name in South Wales. Tobias Lyn sounds lovely.

daisymai08 · 01/02/2017 08:03

I really like it just spell it differently Lin is a great idea!! I think very cool....

Anything goes now Jody Is both Jude is both...

daisymai08 · 01/02/2017 08:04

My middle name is Dorothy no one in the world knows it's Dorothy unless I tell them (which I do now as I'm proud of it)

Jooni · 01/02/2017 08:05

I think Tobias Lynn is great! I agree that if it's fine to give girls traditional male names like James or George as a middle name (which I think it is), then it's fine to give female/unisex names to boys. Lynn is hardly an uber-popular, super-feminine name - you're not calling him Tobias Daisy or Florence or something. Go for it OP, I think it's a lovely sentiment and a great name regardless.

Cinderpi · 01/02/2017 08:51

Definitely a Wales/England split on this. I'm Welsh, and knew a male Lynn, and think it's fine. DH is English and says not. I'd say go with it anyway - how often do you tell people your middle name anyway?!
