Someone stole my name!!!

Well they didn't steel it.. but have a friend on Facebook who's just had her baby 3 weeks early and called it same first name and same middle name as what we were going to call ours!! And it had taken ages for us to pick.

Don't really know her that well but have quite a few mutual friends. Don't live in the same area.

It's not a top 100 name. Should I keep the name or back to drawing board?

My daughter is called Scarlett, our last name is rose . As a lot of people use rose as a middle name we have had a couple with the same " scarlett rose " combination and continually get asked what her last name is... grrrr it's rose .

MrsRJCxx · 01/02/2017 19:34

I'm gonna guess they only knew the name because you posted it on fb. Because thats an unusual combination to be coincidental.

Why do people plaster it all over their facebook then moan when someone else uses it.
Maybe i'm old fashioned but I hate the idea of finding out what you're having then naming it.
A friend of mine found out early, named the baby, AND she was having an elected csection...so she knew what it was, its name and when it'll be born. Wheres the element of surprise anymore? :(

BreakfastAtStephanies · 01/02/2017 19:36

BreakfastAtSquiffanys stole my user name ! ( not sure which of us was the first Breakfast ). Might change mine.

You should use the names you chose.

mistermagpie · 01/02/2017 19:38

I don't think the Op had shared her name choice on fb, I think it was just coincidence.

I'd still use it, you may never even see these people, let alone hang out with them enough for it to matter.

buckyou · 01/02/2017 19:41

Where did I say I put it on Facebook?? I haven't even told anyone! Who puts the name on Facebook before the babies even born?

I think I'm gonna change the middle name.

How long before he likes to call himself JJ, I wonder! Sure he'll be gorgeous whatever you call him. I do like Jasper James though 😉

Northend77 · 01/02/2017 20:00

How about Jessie James? I am assuming you will be using JJ as a nickname (though I know there's as much chance that you won't). Yes it's a name from history but I think it's a good name and I am hearing Jasper loads - there's 2 at our nursery

MrsRJCxx · 01/02/2017 20:01

OP...i never said you did. I said i'm guessing you did as its such an unusual combination for it to be a coincidence thats all.

The second half of my post was just a rant about it all in general lol. I hate seeing it on fb 'oh xxxx is kicking' etc. Does me head in haha. X

GreatScot8 · 01/02/2017 20:02

How about Caspar/Casper James?

Very similar to Jasper. Smile

pipsqueak25 · 01/02/2017 20:04

don't like jasper or casper tbh but it is your choice and it doesn't matter what other people think.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 01/02/2017 20:09

My ds2 is Casper James Smile I'd stick with it OP.

Reported for poor spelling of gay

Champagneformyrealfriends · 01/02/2017 20:43

Before Facebook this was barely an issue-I went to school with so many children with the same first and middle name (think Sarah Jane, Katie Jayne, Lauren/Laura/Lucy etc-80's names) people didn't know that vague acquaintances had chosen the same name so it didn't matter. Use the name.

SheldonCRules · 01/02/2017 20:43

Jasper seems to be everywhere since the days of Twilight, nice on its own but doesn't go with James.

Nobody owns a name though.

MadMags · 01/02/2017 20:46

Jasper James is lovely!

If you do change one name though, I'd keep Jasper (don't like Casper personally) and change the second one.

Mouthfulofquiz · 01/02/2017 20:50

What about Jasper John?

KateRP · 01/02/2017 20:53

Our 2nd born was called x then George, 3rd was called x then May. BIL & SIL called 2nd child x George and then 3rd child X Mae! Why oh why would this be acceptable??! Ridiculously similar 🤔

MelOrSue · 01/02/2017 21:04

Jasper James is a fab name. (I'm secretly hoping your middle name is Jones or Jackson or similar...)

Don't bother changing the middle name. No one, other than new parents, care about middle names. They just don't matter.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 01/02/2017 23:32

Sheldon. You'd argue black was white in a phone box! 😂

AnnieAnoniMouse · 01/02/2017 23:37

buckyou. Jasper James is rather well used, so it's not terribly surprising, just unfortunate. It's really not going to matter. If James is important to you (family name) or you really really like it, just use it.

If you want to change it, how about

Jasper Charles
Jasper Benjamin
Jasper Nathaniel
Jasper John
Jasper William

If fact if you stay away from vowels, there's not much it doesn't go with.

MachineBee · 02/02/2017 10:35

Jasper is a lovely name but I couldn't use it on a child as my DSis called her dog Jasper I'll get my coatGrin

Frenchfarmwench · 02/02/2017 11:18

I agree..nice name, use it!
When my eldest was born I picked her VERY unusual first name & kept it to myself. Then 2 weeks before she was born I was reading the birth announcements in the local paper to see that another local lady had called her daughter the same name.
It didn't bother me, but when my girl was born & our announcement went in, I heard from several sources that she was really upset with me because I had 'stolen' it.
How very silly!
It was in fact a name I had long loved for a girl (Devon), & I found it from a novel where it was the lead characters name.
As luck would have it when my daughter went to Secondary school the other Devon was put into the same tutor group as her.
You couldn't put money on it really......

PuntCuffin · 02/02/2017 13:18

MachineBee that is exactly what someone closely related to me said to one of her sons when he named his DS Jasper. She laughed at him, said that's a dog's name and asked what they were really going to call him. Took a while for her to be forgiven for that Grin

buckyou · 02/02/2017 13:44

I'm sure my MIL will upset me in some way when we tell her the name. I think she was a bit traumatised when we told her that my daughter, Elizabeth, was going to be known as Zibby!Grin

So much so she's given my unborn baby her own name! Which apparently she is going to call him when he's born!
