Elizabeth, Francesca or something else?

I like the names Elizabeth and Francesca, but neither is quite perfect. Elizabeth had connotations of Elizabeth I which I love, but works get shortened and is quite well used. Francesca is nice but not as meaningful. Any suggestions of similar names?

I have an Elizabeth so rather like it! My best friend is called Francesca so I like that too! I think francesca is a bit more exotic sounding where as Elizabeth more traditional English.

My friend has sisters called Rebecca, Vanessa and Natasha. If this one in my tummy was a girl we were considering Matilda. Victoria also similar to Elizabeth.

Reddingtonsmoll · 28/01/2017 15:27

I love Elizabeth and all of its variations. I love betty. I think you can adapt it to suit a personality. Francesca is also nice but not very keen on Frankie which is what it might be aka.

MollyHuaCha · 28/01/2017 15:27

Both lovely names.

pilates · 28/01/2017 15:32

Both nice names

How about Emmeline?

daisydaisychain · 28/01/2017 15:34

Thanks for all your input. Yes, they are both quite classic, but Elizabeth even more so I suppose. I do like Victora and Matilda too. I was avoiding Matilda because an acquaintance used it, but actually it's unlikely to be a problem now I think about it because I don't see much of that person, so it should be on my list!

I love Elizabeth and Beth as a shortening.

hels71 · 28/01/2017 15:53

Eleanor?

daisydaisychain · 28/01/2017 15:59

Yes I also like Beth! I think liz is almost inevitable though...

Eleanor was also on my list last time! I like that too.

How about Adeline, Henrietta, Aleanora, Theordora, Dorothea, Adelaide or Caroline?

5BlueHydrangea · 28/01/2017 16:13

Georgina , Margaret, Mary / Maria
I like girls names ending in 'A' eg Rebecca, Arianna, Aurelia, Lucia, Anna, Martha

TheHiphopopotamus · 28/01/2017 16:21

I love both of them, but Elizabeth is my fave. I don't think connotations of Elizabeth I is a bad thing tbh, but it also reminds me of Elizabeth Bennet (also a good thing).

I love Betty as a nickname but I also know one whose family shortened it to Lisbet.

notagiraffe · 28/01/2017 16:23

I like your taste in names! Both of those are pretty, elegant, classic and versatile. Great names.

mum2bejen · 28/01/2017 16:25

I love both names! If my son had been a girl he was either going to be Francesca Elizabeth or Bethany Francesca :-)

MiniAlphaBravo · 28/01/2017 16:26

I really like Elizabeth. Don't think Liz is at all inevitable today. I know young Elizabeths called Libby and Lily and an older one who is just Elizabeth.

CSLewis · 28/01/2017 16:31

I know an Elisabeth, nn Lily. I also like Beth as a diminutive. Francesca is a nice name too, but I'm not personally keen on the 'Fr...' sound.

Marianne?
Beatrice?
Anna?

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 28/01/2017 16:37

I love Elizabeth. It has such great nn potential too.
I know four aged from 1 to 70. They are Lizzy (70) Beth (40s) Betsy (12) and just Elizabeth (1) so I don't think that Liz is necessarily inevitable unless you choose it.

daisydaisychain · 28/01/2017 17:01

I meant Elizabeth I as a positive! I do like Rebecca and Anna too. Yes, there are other options for nicknames - I hadn't thought of lily. Libby, Beth and Lizzie are nice.

Juliet, Juliette, Julietta

AntsMarching · 28/01/2017 17:51

Apparently QEII's family called her Lillebet, which I think sounds incredibly endearing.

daisydaisychain · 28/01/2017 18:06

Yes I like Lilibet! Also Elsie.

Clementine
Rosalie
Cordelia

TheLadyWithTheYellowHat · 28/01/2017 18:57

Im a Francesca so very biased! I wear a name badge at work and regularly get told what a nice name it is. Francesca can be shortened to frankie, fran or cesca

daisydaisychain · 29/01/2017 08:15

Thanks everyone. I still love Elizabeth, but I'm torn. I now have a longer shortlist!
