There was a Matilda on Home & Away who went by Mattie. It was pronounced Maddie but there's no discernible difference between the two in Australia unless you make an effort to annunciate correctly.

Or here's a novel idea. If you want to call your child Maddie why not just call them that in the first place? Why fart about giving a child one name then calling them something else entirely?
