Matilda. Love matty and tilly. Strong name.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 25/01/2017 22:01

Matilda.

Jiffybag · 25/01/2017 22:05

Both really lovely. I marginally prefer Dorothy I think. Dorothea even nicer!

Chatelherault · 25/01/2017 22:09

Matilda

TurquoiseFairy · 25/01/2017 22:11

Dorothea is nice, but just seems so long (I don't even know why!) Confused

Matilda is very popular, would that bother you?

Is it? I've only met one. Ive met more Dorothys but neither name is hardly popular.

(And popular names are popular for a reason etc.etc.)

TurquoiseFairy · 25/01/2017 22:19

Matilda is 27th! Dorothy is only 343rd!

Dorothy!

It's just ace.

Wizard of Oz and also I knew a Dorothy at school who was super cool (went by Dot but don't let that put you off).

joannegrady90 · 25/01/2017 22:23

Dorothy 😊.

My grans name and so lovely. NI knaves could be : Dot, Doctor etc

pilotswife · 25/01/2017 22:23

Matilda is beautiful

joannegrady90 · 25/01/2017 22:24

Nicknames even!

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 25/01/2017 22:24

Dorothy, by a long chalk. Beautiful name and so many lovely nicknames, Dotty, Doro, Dora, Dodie. I might be tempted by Dorothea though as Jiffybag says.

Congratulations!

Matilda

BrieAndChilli · 25/01/2017 22:24

I have a Matilda (back when it wasn't popular!!) she spent the first few years of her life very annoyed about never being able to find her name on anything!! She's 8 now and is starting to find it on most stuff
She's a small girls - it's surprising how much they care about stuff like this!!
Even though it's more popular we have only ever come across one other Matilda ever and that was just a chance encounter in a cafe.

uncoolnn · 25/01/2017 22:25

I like Matilda but I LOVE Tilly so that may be why Smile

Dieu · 25/01/2017 22:25

I think Dorothy is just awful, and for no-one under the age of 80. Sorry OP, and many congrats!
I'm not mad on Matilda, but it beats Dorothy.

TurquoiseFairy · 25/01/2017 22:27

Do you prefer Mattie/Matty or Tillie/Tilly?

OP posts:
justanotheryoungmother · 25/01/2017 22:33

Matilda Smile

Geraldthegiraffe · 25/01/2017 22:40

Matty and tilly but no idea why.

The Dorothys I know ended up being dotty which isn't great.

OrlandaFuriosa · 25/01/2017 22:41

Dorothea or Theodora

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/01/2017 22:41

Dorothy. The nn Dotty is just adorable

Joeybee · 25/01/2017 23:18

Matilda is one of my favourite names, so I'd pick that. I'd be using it myself if there weren't so many little Matilda's in Australia! I love Maddie/Mattie and Tilda as nn's too.

Dorothy is a beautiful name, and both names are fairly ageless i feel. Dotty is sweet, but when she's older maybe she'd want another nn, there's not a lot you can get out of Dorothy. Love the Wizard of Oz association with this name.

Jooni · 26/01/2017 13:00

I like Matilda better, even though it's more popular. #27 really isn't that high now that a much wider range of names are being used.

Dorothy is OK and Dot/Dotty is sweet, but I do prefer Dorothea. How do you feel about Tabitha? Cecily? Rosanna?

Sophronia · 26/01/2017 13:06

Dorothy, as it's more unusual at the moment

girlandboy · 26/01/2017 18:45

Dorothy! But that might be because it's my middle name! And it can be abbreviated to Dolly as well Smile
